doc·u·men·ta·ry (dky-mnt-r) adj. 1. Consisting of, concerning, or based on documents. 2. Presenting facts objectively without editorializing or inserting fictional matter, as in a book or film. n. pl. doc·u·men·ta·ries A work, such as a film or television program, presenting political, social, or historical subject matter in a factual and informative manner and often consisting of actual news films or interviews accompanied by narration.
The only thing still true in the definition of a documentary is that it consists of "interviews accompanied by narration". I watch them with the understanding that they are nothing more than a sales pitch for one side or the other. Jmho.

Hey Doug, Respectfully, I've removed my "editorializing" comment and submit that you've chosen a very narrow definition of the term. I prefer this one from wikipedia: "Documentary" has been described as a "filmmaking practice, a cinematic tradition, and mode of audience reception" that is continually evolving and is without clear boundaries. found here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Documentary_filmAgain, in my opinion, it's a good film .

I used the Free Dictionary online for the definition. No Wikipedia here I'll check with Webster to see what they think. My comment is based mostly from a conversation I had with my son who is majoring in film studies @ Syracuse U.. I haven't watched the documentary yet. I'm sure it is quite good. I've never had a Z brother lead me wrong.

Still one of our favorite documentaries.... "Grizzly Man" by Werner Herzog. I wish your son lots of success. My son has finished 3 features since graduating in 2009.... now, if he could only make some money!
