I got a line on some Jensen C10Q speakers and was thinking of building a 4x10 cab. Some people have said they didn't get enough bass response with a 4x10 but they indicated they were using alnico speakers, not ceramics like the C10Qs. Anyone have any thoughts?
Thanks.

In my Super Reverb I use two C10Q's and two P10R's, they compliment each other very well. The C10Q's tend to be a little bright, and the P10R's a little flabby in the bass. I tried 4 C10Q's and my ears bled for a week.

The first time I experienced what I consider to be great tone was in a SF Fender 4x10 (don't ask me for model, I was a punk teenager!)
With a stock strat into TWO original Rats into this amp, it was an absolutely rockin tone. I assure you that a $300 Strat has never sounded better:)

I picked up a 4x10 with jensen reissue alnico's last summer and it was a dissapointment. Its back up on ebay now. Flabby bass, low sensitivity and didn't move as much air as I had hoped. Nice squashy highs, sweet sounding etc but didnt suit what I was needing, a larger cab with more projection for outdoor gigs.

Why not mix and match? I'd try a couple of hemp cone 10's (tone tubbies or eminence) with the Jensens to tighten up the low end. If you want more SPL try 4 eminence 10's.
I bought an old Bassman 10 (50W) that someone had put a 15 inch speaker in. I cut a new baffle and put in 2 eminence little buddy (hemp cone, tone tubby knockoffs) and 2 eminence ramrods. It sounds great and is really, really loud. The bottom end is tight and focused, like a 4X12.
The hemp cones have great lows and mids and the ramrods have great upper mids and highs. I tried it with 4 hemps also, and it was a bit muddy sounding.

I used to use a Marshall 4x10 cab for years. I used it w/ a fender, ampeg, marshall and various different rack preamps and it sounded great w/ all of them. I always thought that it had just the right amount of bass response - I remember that it was a 140 watt stock cab - so I guess the speakers were 35 watters. I think I sold it because I needed some dough. 4x12's were always a bit much for me especially because I like a fairly fat tone. I would rather not be in a battle for the low's w/ a bass player. Just my opinion

I think I'd like to try a Z-4x10 cab with every amp I have... I'd especially love to try it with the Maz Sr....

I like ceramic 10's.....I really like my Z 4x10. Great tone ..never harsh and lots of bass. The Route 66 sounds awesome through it. I wonder what speakers are close to the Dr's 10's ??
