I just built my first cabinet. It's a 2-12 closed back with a removable slot in the back for situations an open back would be more fitting. I'm more of a carpenter than a tech guy, but I've done a little research on speaker types. I've never really liked speaker break up, I'd rather leave that up to the amp, so I'm thinking high wattage on the speakers. What I'm wondering is would a mix of AlNiCo and ceramic jive? It seems like it would be the best of both worlds. The smoothness of AlNiCo with the cut of ceramic. Anyone tried this or have any input? Thanks

when you are choosing speakers, i'd pay particular attention to the sensitivity rating if you want more even balance between 2 types of speakers at various volume levels.
celestion Blue and G12h-30 combo is popular but that may be too crunchy for what you want and at certain volume levels Blue may dominate. i would look towards Weber's California and/or Eminence Commonwealth for starters.

An Emi redfang works very well with an Eminence wizard or Celestion G12H. Nice full sound and great bottom. Less speaker breakup and cone cry from the redfang (vs. blue), if that's your thing.
The blue and g12H sounds better to my ear, but it is only a 30 watt cab (or a bit more if you're brave) and there is a fair bit more speaker breakup with 30 watt amps into that combination.
