Hello guys, i have a question about using a 2x12 as a 1x12. Basically, my question is if you have two speakers mounted in a 2x12, but only use one of them will there be any negative effects compared to using a 1x12. And also, if having a resistor in parallel with a speaker (to get a correct ohm reading) effects the tone of the speaker compared running by itself. What I'm thinking is, have on/off switches for both speakers, so that i can choose to use either one, or both. I've also thought about when switching to the 'off' position that it just switches out the speaker for an 8-ohm resistor, so that the ohm of the cab remains constant (and i can mute the cab completely). thanks guys corey yup.... that should work. i used to do it with my 2x12s myself but i didn't bother with the additional load since i just switched the impedance at the amp(s). this also make the 2 amp setup easier. at any rate if you go the route of subing a resistor for a speaker, you'd lose a bit of volume. if you wanna get a little fancy, you can use another speaker mounted inside the cab to use as a dummy load instead of a resistor. hope this helps,

Sorry bout that Johnny, It's probably my fault... I probably just confused you with my explanation... it's so much simplier but hard to describe in writing... I've still got it set up that way and thats the way I'm gonna use that cab from now on... very handy. and BTW, the reason I didn't go with a switch was that I was worried about the switch failing or something and possibly losing the load on one or two amps at a time and running the risk of frying the transformers... I've done that before and I don't like that smell... or the cost. Corey, If you come up with a switch that is safe to run/ dependable and sounds good, come back on and let us know what you did... I'd like to see what you come up with... I like the way mine is wired but my buddy/ fellow guitar player would rather have one with a switch of some sort... and he's building a 2x12 cab right now so we might try a switch on that one... Jason
