I posted this over on the general board because I'm new here and I didn't know this section was heree. PLEASE HELP!!!
I just picked up an empty 2x12 Mesa cab for $50. It's one of the older ones that had metal grill, closed bottom, open top slanted.
I'm thiking I'm going with some Eminence speakers as I've been hearing great things about their new line. Tonker? Swamp Thang? Red, White & Blue, Legend 121? This cab is going to be used with a Crate Power Block.
So, here is my deal as far as playng. I play mostly original singer-songwriter stuff, Americana, AAA. I like to run my amps clean but with just a tad bit of hair on them and then use pedals for drive. I have a Nobels OD, an Ibanez Tube King, Zinky True Grit, CMATMODS Brownie and a Line 6 DM4 (which I LOVE by the way). Guitar-wise I have Gretsch with Filtertrons, a Gibson Es135 with P-100's, a '65 SG Jr, Tele and some other oddballs thrown in.
I like a nice full range tone, not too boomy or spiky, well rounded.........the usual fat, warm...blah blah blah. Top end? I like it chimey, sweet.
What would you suggest? And, if mixing speakers, what speaker where? Closed. Open.
Thanks!

Eminence 121 Legend and 125 would be an outstanding combo for what i'm hearin! Ive got a 121 in a closed back 1-12, and can vouch that it IS as you describe!

Thanks man!! Ya know I've been thinking about both of those speakers but I think they only come in 8ohms so I'd have to run them in series right? The Crate says it wants a minimum of a 8ohm load.
Is there any sound difference when running in series as opposed to parallel?

I have a ZBest with a Celestion 12H30 on top and an Eminence Texas Heat in the bottom. I mike the TH and hear mostly the Celestion from behind, with the TH coming back a little from room ambience or from the speaker cabs right up by my ears. I've also run a Blue and a TH in a 3/4 back Mesa 2x12, but now have a pair of Heats installed. If you like that American Son Volt, My Morning Jacket kind of thing, the TH is a pretty good, pretty inexpensive choice. And available in 16 ohms, too.

I have a pair of Mesa MC90's for sale that were probably standard issue with that cab. They're listed in the classified section. Excellent speakers!
