I know I keep blowing this place up with posts, ill keep this one a little shorter..
I was able to play the antidote for quite a while today at home. I played my strat some but plugged in the Collings for a while.
The vintage setting is warmer and cleaner to me. I like it with the strat best for bluesy type tones. Think SRV, John Mayer. It will get some nice crunch to it when cranked. It's very smooth sounding to me. With the Collings 290 it gets some good warm smooth overdriven sounds. Think early ZZ top. ( just got paid, waiting on the bus)
The modern setting isn't just a different voice, it's like a whole new attitude! This is the first time I've messed with it for any amount of time. The volume bumps up as do the mids and the gain. (I personally think if this feature were foot switchable it would be the perfect lead boost. Just saying. But I haven't tried the EQ bypass either) I like the strat with it for certain things, and I'm sure a tele picker would dig on this setting. It gets a good bit more percussive. But I decided to crank her up with the Collings. I had both volumes around 3 o'clock, and it got nice and loud. Gain or overdrive, whatever you want to call it is a relative term. I dont think its a gain monster when cranked. It's not a death metal machine by any means. No Mesa boogie fizz. Nope, it retains flat out amazing tone even when cranked. Just like doc said it gets that '70s crunch thing going on and does it nicely. To me it was like some live Led Zep. Or even some early Judas Priest.
As a whole this dude covers a lot more ground than I ever would have imagined. So happy with it!!!
K ill shut up for the night
