I'm beginning to embrace the reality that I might end up with more Z amps.
Next on the acquisition list would have to be a Rt66.
Anyone play a rt66 though some a cab like the 'Ray's 2x12 w/ Blues?
I'm not convinced that a greenback type speaker is a must for good '66 tone.
How does an alnico speaker sound with a '66 compared to a typical ceramic?
I'd think that the difference is subtle.

Hohn,
I have a Rte 66 and use a 1 x 12 closed back cab with a Celestion Blue. I also have a Z Best with the stock Vintage30 and G12H30. The Z Best sits and I use only the Celestion Blue cabinet, I much prefer it. I suppose it depends on what type of sound you're shooting for, I play blues and 60's/70's rock. I plan on selling the Z Best - I tried it last weekend for the first time in a long time and, while it was OK, I like the Celestion Blue much better. I may buy a 2x12 cab and stock it with 2 Blues. There's alot of speakers out there that I haven't tried, so I may be missing something, but for the last couple of years I've really enjoyed the Blue.

I haven't tried running my Maz 38 through this combination, but where do you keep the 66's volume to keep from blowing that 15 watt Blue? I'm kind of afraid to plug the 38 into the 2x12 because of this...

I use an Airbrake on about 4 and the volume is only at about 9 o'clock. The pup I use almost all the time is pretty hot - a DiMarzio Virtual Vintage Solo (and the Clapton Mid-Boost on alot of the time). I've been using the Rte 66/Blue for about 2 years, never had a problem. In some situations, I'd like to turn up more or at least push more air, that's why I'm considering going with a 2x12 cabinet for those occasions. As I'm sure you know, the 66 is a really loud amp.
