Just wondering how hard it is to redo grill piping on a cab. My Maz Jr NR head just showed up from Fat Sound and the piping is different than what I had expected. If its easy enough I was thinking of redoing the piping on my cab to match the head. Any thoughts?

Hey Greg, it's not too difficult. Once you coax the grill away from the cabinet, you'll find the top edge of the piping stapled around the perimeter of the grill. Just lots of staples to pull, and then re-do. When I re-did my grill cloth recently, I had to also deal with the piping as it goes on OVER the cloth.

Thanks, Bill. How do you gingerly get the grill cloth apart from the cabinet?

Thanks, Bill. How do you gingerly get the grill cloth apart from the cabinet? What kind of cab is it? Some cabs have a "floating" baffle board with the grillcloth attatched to it ,if so there should be some wood pieces that the grill is screwed to...unscrew & the baffle will slide out... Other cabs will have the baffle board "built in" they will have a "grill frame"with the grillcloth attatched to it just unscrew it ,& it should just pull off... It might actually be easier to just change the piping on the head...less staples, & the "grill" should be easier to get off also

Greg,
Did yours come with the "new" brown piping? Mine is shipping from Stu next week and I think he said it will be brown instead of white...too bad. The white really sets off the blonde cab. If you try changing it let us know how it goes.

Its a Dr. Z 1x12 open back cab, the newer ractangular style that is the same dimensions as the 2x10 cab.
Yeah, the head came with the new brown piping, was really hoping it would be white as it does really offset the blonde and would match perfectly with the cab. It may just be easier to change the head piping, I'll have to look.

Take the speaker out, remove the 4 screws, and then the tricky part is getting the grill off the box without damaging the edge. If you're lucky, it will be a loose fit. Mine was extra tight and took some doing to release it.
