HI:
I´m new in the forum and new with my just bought used Maz 8. Amazing! But if I turn up the CUT control in pentode mode I get background noise (too much), it acts almost like a gain switch. I tried with other EL 84, but nothing. Is that normal?
Best regards.

Mine does the same thing... I play it so much in triode mode, that it took me a while to notice. I keep the cut fairly low, but it's definitely there.

I'm wondering now, if this is normal? Does anyone else have the same problem?

I wouldn't call it a problem as such but there is a noticeable amount of background hiss in pentode mode, particularly if the cut is up. However, I've never found it to cause any real problems in either live or recording situations.

I´ve been using it only at home, and in that situation, playing low, the background hiss seems to me quite noticeble. But I suppose that when I am playng in small to medium sized gigis and turn up volume and master, I won´t hear the hiss and will enjoy this amazing sound.
Thanks gravesp!

Have you tried turning the cut right up and then just lowering the treble?
I'd been running mine like that for a while and just raised the cut a bit while I had the Tele out.
