Awright now, y'all are just gettin' too durn good at that. Just beeyooteeful! I tried the 10/12 on a gig last night, and it was just amazing what the combination of the 2 sounds like. I didn' think I could still hear those frequencies, but that 10 in there really sweetens it up. I think you're onto somethin' boys.

One detail I like to see is the inside of the cabinet painted black or stained. I think it really adds a nice touch, like inside Zs. I think those are beautiful cabs you guys are building. How about a 12" and an 8" like Gibson did in the 40's?

Yeah we're going back & forth on painting the inside ...paint 'em like "they" do now day's ...OR... leave 'em un painted like Fender did in day's gone by ;^)

the cab is red and black so you can better distinguish the polarity: the red panels are positive and the black are negative:)

The different color piping stood out in a subtle but effective way, caught that pretty quick. Another subtlety i like is the upper and lower face plates at opposite angles. Great design detail. Also Love the finish attention and creative use of colors. The red and black tolex demands attention and highlights the art deco styling in a very cool way. It screams "LOOK AT ME".
How much for a Kit ;D You guys are doing some very creative work Zane. Maybe a second career in your future?

Zane, With that fairly small opening in the back, do you think this cab take on more of a closed back personality?

I'm going to have to do some testing here....

I've seen some of those old Gibsons that used Jensen ST (ST means standard) speakers. They are really low wattage speakers so be careful. They only had like a 6 ounce magnet and a 1" or less voice coil. They'll pop pronto. I was trying one that I got at a garage sale once. It really had a sweet tonality and then it just quit and it wasn't even loud yet. When I was in high school we gathered up a bunch of cheap speakers out of TVs and broken radios and had a blow fest using a Kustom 200 head. Man that was fun! One guy had a homeade 2 x 15 cab that had the cheapest 15" speakers I had ever seen, really small magnets. We didn't blow it but I still remember how good it sounded.

In fact, with the right combination, you could get all the good attributes of Ceramic AND Alnico, and all of the responses from the bottom to the top that make for great guitar tone. I bet this could really sound great!

Hey Buddy do you know what "Sleepy's " real name is? That's the 1st time I've ever heard him play... I believe his name is Rene'. Always just knew him as Sleepy. Their band, "Smart Like Einstein" got their name from the Little Charlie and the Nightcats tune. Funny stuff. Guys, that 10 and 12 combo WORKS. I played that cab w/ my Senior and my strat and had a little, dare I say...'SRVism' happening that I hadn't noticed before ('cause it wasn't there...) Had the Airbrake down about 2 clicks to keep the neighbors from gettin' nervous. (We were outside in a guy's backyard havin' some BODACIOUS babbykew...) Zane, I'd love to give that Z28 a trial run, maybe when Cachonga's reopens when they get ther new Lick-'er license.

I have a Weber Blue Dog 50W AlNiCo that I was planning on pairing with a ceramic speaker, probably the Celestion G12H30 that came stock in my Z 1x12 cab. The Blue Dog is a very warm and musical sounding speaker, but it's a little too compressed by itself and the bottom end can get a little flabby, but I think paired with a nice ceramic you get the best of both worlds, tight ceramic punch and bottom end and warm AlNiCo compression and even frequency response.
I plan on using my Tonker by itself in my 1x12 cab and I may occasionally swap it out with my Swamp Thang, but those speakers are so distinct, efficient and loud that I don't think they would pair well with many other speaker combinations for my needs. For instance, paired with the Weber AlNiCo Blue, I think the Tonker or Swamp would dominate the overall sound and there wouldn't be much benefit in combining the two.
I ultimately hope to get one of those Celestion AlNiCo Golds and try pairing it with a Celestion Heritage G12H, for the sound in my head I think that would cover a lot of musical ground and make for a very sonically complex texture. But, for now I'd rather experiment with what I already have and try to hold off on spending more $$$ on new speakers.
Needless to say, I can't wait to get that cab!
Thanks again, Dave!
-Greg
