I have a Maz 18 NR head. I have been using it with a Mesa Boogie 2x12 cabinet and a Mesa Boogie 1x12 cabinet. Would the open back 2x10 cabinet be any better? Would there be a noticeable sound difference compared to the 12' speakers? I am playing some gigs with a country group now and am going for a good country tone. I am just trying to decide if there is enough difference that it would be worth spending the money for a new cab.

Is it the older Recto cab with V30's? I had two of these in the past that were closed back, but the back panel was in two pieces. You could remove some screws and top 1/2 would pop out and really make a huge tone difference. More highs, less bottom and the sound would fill the room. When I needed bottom end, the piece fit back so tight I never put the screws back. Closed back for r&r, open for country. Sold them because they were so heavy, and I getting old!!!
You could always make a new 1/2 back for your cab if money is tight. You should be able to get a good clean country sound from a open back 2x12. But, the Z 2x10 is a killer cab!!! I think the best 2x10 I have ever heard.

I'll have to check my Mesa cab, and see if the back comes right off like that.
I would rather put money towards a 2nd z amp instead of buying a new cab. I was just curious if I really need the Z cabinet or if what I have will be as good.
