What a horrible flick.... My wife can be a real nerd at times...she REALLY loves this stuff. Even she said it was a really bad film. So bad, she probably won't see the 2nd and 3rd films. I read the book in the late 70's. Can't remember a thing. There's only one phrase I can say: "WHAT'S THE PLOT/STORY" ? There's no plot!!! There's no story! WHY are they doing those things? WHERE are they going? WHY is that happening? People rushing from one place to another....and you don't know why! People fighting...and you don't know why! People doing this and that...and you don't know why! I am usually one of the most easygoing and forgiving people when I see flicks. I can overlook a lot...just entertain me. But not this flick.

Interesting... I've been wanting to watch it. I liked the Lord of the Rings trilogy so I thought this might be great as well.

Yeah, bummer. We've been planning on seeing this since the trailers came out.

Interesting... I've been wanting to watch it. I liked the Lord of the Rings trilogy so I thought this might be great as well. Without reading the LOTR books, I was at least able to follow along and get what was going on. The Hobbit...no.

Well, I liked it. They did add some story lines. I didn't have an issue with following the story but then I have read the book many times.
The added story lines threw me for a little while at first.

I guess to appreciate the cartoons or the movies one has to have read the books. I never read the books. I didn't like the LoTR movies (BORING), and have no plans on seeing a new trilogy where they actually begin from the beginning.

Man, I hate that, John. I've NOT read the book NOR it's predecessors, never really cared to sit down and watch LOTR(s), and now, one of my kids wants to go see Hobbit this weekend (honestly, I've been avoiding the subject) .....maybe I can talk him into Jack Reacher or Django... Hmmmm

I am a pretty big fan of medieval flicks. So I liked it. I usually enjoy the really bad medieval movies too. But I agree it was a little hard to follow. But even if you know the book there were some gross additions and subtractions to the plot overall so far. And does one book require 3 movies More or less the Dwarfs are trying to somehow reclaim their homeland from Smaug the dragon.

I read it years ago when I found out that's where Robert Plant got a lot of his songs. I enjoyed the book. Might have to skip the movie from that review.

I've read the Tolkien books many times over the years so it's difficult for me to judge the movie from the perspective of someone who hasn't. I even re-read the Hobbit after seeing the movie. I enjoyed the movie but can understand why others would not.
