I am a newbie to the forum, so please be kind. I just picked up a Maz 38 rev head on Ebay, ser. # R5950, like new, not a scratch on it. Waited a day before I even opened the shipment because I had to contain my excitement. I've waited my whole life (56 years) for this. Tried it out for about 15 minutes with my '62 AVRI Stratocaster, and then let it sit for the next 8 days (today). My mind is still a blur, I just don't know how to behave. Can anyone help me please?
BTW, I did check out the tubes and found GT EL84S (4 output), JJ GZ34 (rectifier), JJ ECC 83S (v1 & v2), Chinese 12AT7 (v3), Sovtek 7025/12AX7WB (v4), and Sovtek 12AX7LPS (v5).

You're too old to be waiting 8 days between jams on yer 38. I'm almost 60....dude...the clock don't slow down for anybody. There's a very great chance you cannot possibly "wear out" that Maz Sr in the time you have left on the planet (especially if our world ends soon)....so enjoy it bro! Crank it up and SMILE!!!!!
PS: Great amp!!!! Welcome to the forum!!!!!

Welcome to the Forum! There is all kinds of info on the site here - don't limit yourself to just the 38 section.
FYI - in case you didn't know - your Maz 38 was built in 2007. You read the serial number as follows - R=2007; the 5 designates a Maz 38; the 950 indicates it is the 950 Maz 38 ever built.

WARNING!!!
You may never enjoy the amp section of any music store ever again!
The MAZ is one of those amps that just works great. Not a ton of flash, not full of gadgets, made to be played loudly with a band. It's just one of those amps that does exaclty what it's supposed to do. No matter how many other booteek, flavor of the month amps I've tried they never stay, but the MAZ just keeps on gettin' it done.
On top of that it gives away nothing to any amp. It has become a classic in the way a Fender Super Reverb, or a Marshall Plexi has. It just one of those amps that is exactly right.

Thanks, guys,
Maddog, for the encouragement, Jaguarguy, for the helpful dating info-I needed that, Bobbyray, for his input and advice, and Mickey, for advice and encouragement. I appreciate you all.
I went one step further and opened up this amp head (damn monkey on my back, just had to see the innards). Oh boy, what a treat!!! The build quality is the best thing I have seen as yet. The quality, the fine detail, the immaculate wiring, the highest grade wire and components, the turret board construction, and more, more, more. I took lots of photos, if anyone has not seen what it looks like on the inside-it is a marvel to behold, I swear.
I have a Fender SF Deluxe that has been BF modded (AB 763), sweet amp, awesome mojo, and the Maz Sr. is built better. I also have a '76 Traynor RM head, built like a brick s#$%house, and the Maz is built as good and probably as strong.
You guys are correct about this amp, it looks like I'm only just getting started. I am starting to envy the guys that own more than one Dr.Z amp, but I love that I finally have one, the exact one I always wanted.
Thank you, Mike D. Zaite, you're a Jedi Master!!!!!!

Welcome and congrats on the amp. Since you've already guessed there might be another Z (or more) in your future, you'll fit right in here. Of course, everyone is welcome whether or not they currently own a Z. Believe it or not, we've had a few prodigal sons here Here's a tone sheet we've been maintaining for the MAZ 18. It may give you some helpful tips on getting to know your 38.

My fav setting for the Maz 38 have been both recommended by DR Z himself checkout the "american roots" setting as well as the "blackface" settings. There are many more in that valuable document.
