Went to fire up my Z'28 this afternoon and when I hit the standby nothing happened. I was like WTH? Turned the amp around and saw grey smoke looking stuff in the PI tube and went to pull it out. When I did I got the results in the picture. The tube had split around the bell of the glass and the rods, getter, and plates were still intact in the socket with the pins and bottom part of the glass. The tube has been replaced but this is the third time with the third different tube type that this company's tubes have failed in my equipment. I would understand if I threw my gear around like a pair of old gym shoes but I baby my amps more than my kids. Needless to reiterate but I will not be buying any more of this brand of tube.

That stinks!!! I have had great results with Tung-Sol 12ax7's, fwiw. Stopped using JJ a while back. Zero failures.

What is really weird is that another forum member (danged if I can remember who it was) very recently posted a pic of the very same failure! Smoked glass and cleanly broken around the bottom! Their quality has really slipped lately.

I bought what I thought would be a lifetime supply of JJ brand 12AX7's and EL84's about 13 years ago so I haven't had to deal with their quality problems, thank goodness. The 6V6's I've bought recently have been fine. I hope they get this worked out.

I had the same thing happen with one of there ef86 or ef806 or whatever they are. Just sitting there working fine and the next time I turn it on no sound. Smoked glass with a crack around the bottom of the glass.
