Hey all,
I'm looking for some powered monitors in the $5-600 range (maybe a touch more) for an album I'm working on. They need to be good enough so I can both mix & do a slap-dash job mastering on.
The last time I bought monitors, they were Yamaha NS10's, so that's what I'm used to.
Whaddaya got?
Thanks!

The ADAM's Eric mentioned would be a good fit if you're accustom to the Yamaha's. Can't beat that price point either. I personally have used KRK VXT6's for almost five years. They are very nice to mix on and ear fatigue is nonexistence

I've been happy with my M Audios with an 8" woofer.

I've got these Yamaha's in my home setup. www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/MSP5stu/They have been darn good also but if I was buying some now I'd go for the ADAMS. When we got the big ADAMS for our recording studio they really changed everything. Can't say enough about their design and quality.

Thanks everyone - I'll definitely look into the ADAMS - maybe even take a trip down to Doodland (GC) to take a listen for myself.
In a Yamaha vein, I found the Yamaha HS80M - anyone know if these are any good?
Some of my other audio friends also recommended the Genelecs, but these seem just out of my range for a decent pair. Especially given the budget of my project...

Yamaha HS80M is the newer less expensive version of the MSP's I'm sure they are pretty good. The Genelec's were pretty much the first powered monitors on the market 20 years ago. I always felt like the power amps in them sort of gave up the ghost on the drums. Too smooth for me.

I just got a pair of equator D5's. They're a bit under your price range. I haven't had a chance to do any mixing with them yet, so I can't really give a review, but if you don't like them they have a 60 day unconditional guarantee so you'd only be out the shipping. www.equatoraudio.com/D5_Studio_Monitors_with_DSP_300_Pair_p/d5.htm

Wow - that's cheap! (After my own heart...)
After listening to all the other brands listed above, I think I like the Yamahas the best. I've found a couple of packages with two monitors, cables, pads & stands for $650 (which is $50 than GC wants just for the monitors, so maybe there's some haggle room there - especially considering all the money they owe...).
But these Equators sounds interesting. There'd be enough to get all that gear & bring it in under $400... Hmm...
Anyone else used the Equators? heard of 'em? Off to the Google..!

I have Adams A7's for mine. Great sound. They are about 1000.00/pr. I wouldn't hesitate buying some A3 or A5's

Well, officially off the fence then.
If you mean your recent mixes sound like crap because the D5s are more accurate, I'm in.

Ordered a set of D5s today. The waiting is the hardest part. :-)

Well, they arrived today & I set 'em up & listened to a couple of cuts.
Very, very nice.
I like these as much as the Yamahas that were my first choice. Especially since the whole package (speakers, cables, pads) cost $100 less than the Yamahas alone.
So, after the honeymoon period is over, I'll write something more in depth, but for now, I'm very happy.
