Just thought I would share my experience. I have been gigging with the Maz 8 for the past three months. I absolutely love this little amp. Keep in mind that we play a lot of smaller venues, but it sounds huge! We are a classic rock cover band. I have the amp set up with the V maxed and the MV between 1 -2'o clock. I use my Gibson Les Paul and roll down the volume on my guitar for cleans (still has a little dirt, but sounds cool). I recently added a King of Tone pedal and the 8 loves it!
I think the Celestion Blue is officially broken in because it sounded really good on the weekend.
Oh...forgot to mention that I use an Airbrake and it still sounds good...all the way up to the Bedroom Setting!
Thanks Doc for the perfect little gigging amp!!! Very happy customer here!!
We are starting to record a new CD soon.... can't wait to try the 8 in the studio!!

I have to save up for one of these. I've been following every gig-related thread about them to see if they can really cut it. I've been catching a lot of flak lately about my volume with my Maz18 , and I've never liked attenuators , so this might be my next move.

I am a new owner of a studio maz 8 and I must say it is officially my favorite amp. My gigging amps thus far have been my RXES with a gold( #1 go to) and a z28/greenback. However my maz 8 is now the king. It came with a g12h anniversary which is ok, but I'm running it with a greenback while I'm waiting for a deal on a blue. IMO the greenback sounds better than the blue, g12h, and gold from the rx, but I like blues and that's that. FYI, I played my first gig with the MAZ 8 on Saturday- and without being miced it is NOT loud enough in a 2 guitar rock band. Plain and simple. My drummer does have a 10lb sledge for a right arm, but nevertheless. Maz 8 + sm57= best tone yet.

I took the 8 to a gig fairly soon after I got it. It didn't quite deliver, but I think, in hindsight, that was mostly because I wasn't dialing it in correctly. I've been using it a lot at home and loving it. The blue is now properly broken in, and that's making a big difference.
I'm eager to give it a shot at another gig.

I felt the same way after my first show with the 8 a few months ago. It was a bigger venue and our first time playing there and I started with the 8. I actually switched to my Maz 18 after the first set. We just played at the same place a few weeks ago. I tried the 8 during sound check and it was cutting through nicely. I decided to give it another shot and it delivered. Like you said doctorice, it is a combination of the speaker break-in and learning how to dial-in your sound. I remember not liking the Remedy shortly after I got it. I tried a couple of settings I read about here on the forum and found a great sound.

I'll have a chance to gig mine in the next 30 days and am anxious. I was too impatient to brake in the G12H30... so I dropped the tone tubby alnico in and it's pretty sweet.
