I'd like to add a tremolo system of some sort to my hardtail strat. I don't do any major bends(as I'm used to bigsby systems and a jazzmaster tremolo which aren't designed to do drastic bends). I was wondering if there are any tremolo systems that can be installed that wouldn't require part of the guitar being routed out to add the springs and whatnot? Anyways, thanks in advance guys!

Stets-Bar offers a Tele style I think that may work.

I think you'd probably be better off getting a new/used Strat or getting a router template and doing it that way. By using one of the surface mounted assemblies you will be doing a major modify and drilling new holes in the guitar etc and it will probably cost you well over 300.00 in the process. It will not add to the resale value of the axe either. You can get a very playable MIM Fender Strat and put good pickups in it or just buy another decent Strat with what you are looking for and add to the collection. You obviously NEED one with the tremelo ...and everybody needs at least TWO guitars!

Please don't tell me that hardtail has any value to it!

I have an emotional attachment to the guitar itself. It was my first electric guitar, and it has a custom finish on it. I don't mind modding it some, I just don't want to have to route out a giant hole in the back in order to add one.

I routed a hardtail Ibanez strat in the 80's to put a Floyd trem on it... wish I hadn't. Tastes change and there's no lookin back.Don't care at all for floyd's these days. It will affect the tone of the instument and then there goes some of your sentimental attachment I guess it just matters how attached you are to it Good luck

Contacted stetsbar....apparently one of their models is designed to fit a hardtail strat. I'm going to give it a try I think. At least that way, if I don't like it I can always change it back.
