I just seen where Fender is offering a Mahogany bodied Strat with a HSS pick up configuration on it. Anyone have one of these to comment on ?? I hate the two point trem system on them (I have a Jeff Beck Strat) so I would probaly order a USACG body and build my own but was wondering about them in general. I'm NOT looking for a vintage type of Strat tone but I love Strats and am just looking at the guitars vibe, tone etc. ... I play mainly my PRS Custom 22 in Church but would like to play a Strat type as well. I feel the two point trems have no guts. I even put a Callaham block and saddles on mine that does help a bit but then I bought a used "kit strat" that has a vintage type bridge that kills the Jeff beck I have so I am sold on the vintage style bridge.

You should get a little thicker tone overall with everything else being the same having a mahogany body. I think the six screw bridge just allows more surface area to conduct vibrations from the strings to the body. Clamp it down tight on the body and it resonates even beter. Its all a choice depending on what you need the guitar to do. To trem or not to trem etc. The Beck strat is a nice guitar as well.

Well I can't really comment on your musings around different "trems". But my Warmoth Telecaster is Mahogany body and neck - it has great tone and sustain - better than my old Warmoth neck & Dougle Eagle body had. ( maple & ash - I think ) Mahogany neck & body. Front tobacco burst finish. Back of neck trans brown satin finish, back of body trans brown clear finish. Peghead veneer & droptop high grade quilted maple. Fretboard ebony with stainless steel frets & Graphtec nut. Warmoth Pro compound neck 10-16" radius with Gotoh side adjuster. Seymour Duncan vintage stacks and grover tuners, black pearloid pickguard When I rebuilt my Tele early this year I wanted a warmer tone. You can check out my soundclips in the Sounds section. The playing isn't anything to write home about - but you might find the clips interesting soundwise. drzamplifiers.proboards41.com/index.cgi?board=soundfiles&action=display&thread=1194185440Cheers: Dixiechicken!

O ya, the Beck I have is way nice as a player and the functionability of it etc. but it just doesn't hold a candle to the traditional bridge Strats. Jeff beck is the ONLY Strat guy I know of who I like that uses that particular bridge on a Strat, everyone else I hold in high esteem as a pro player uses the vintage bridge. I'm getting stoked on the mahogay concept and I know it wont be in the LP territory at all, thats what I like! I'm crusing the USACG site now for ideas etc. on building one from Callaham parts, Fralins or Lollars etc......

I have a mahogany body and neck asat with a single in the neck and a bucker in the bridge, great tone. I find it a lot darker toned than my classic with ash body. Its my goto guitar. If there is only one then its that asat. I used a wilinson/gotoh 6 hole trem in m,y 57' ri. Great product. Its the one with 5 elongated holes to give a more knife blade edge and 1 round hole to keep it from moving sideways. Very cool.

I tried a G&L Legacy in that configuration and it had a definite Les Paul Jr. thing going on. I almost bought it on the spot but had just bought an old Telecaster. It sold and I'm keeping a lookout for it again..

sounds like the way Tonequest Report and others here describe the Fralin humbuckers they would be a good choice for this guitar. I'm getting stoked about it!

Every once in a while someone at Fender takes a little nip from the jug Leo left in the back corner of the old building on Fullerton Ave. When Leo drank, he came up with fabulous ideas. Now when the nip is taken, mahogany appears on Strats. Personally, I blame the booze.
