I predict a short life span for the robot guitar.

Even as a self-proclaimed old fart purist, I have to admit that Robot thing is very interesting. In the past I had looked at some of the Line 6 guitars (for their versatility live) and just didn't like the quitar itself, not so much the sounds but the feel and playability, etc. The Robot dosen't do every guitar sound on the planet but to change tunings between songs etc. it sure looks pretty cool to me. I will admit, that blue color thang dosen't do it for me. Some will love it but refer back to the opening line (old fart thing) lol. ;D So who is going to rush right out to be the first to play the Robot? All you Fender guys beware, it has a sorted past (check out the videos on the Gibson site).

I'd love to hit a button to tune up between songs...but i'm not sure i'd want the first generation of the technology.

I want one that plays itself and sounds better than the original artist whenever I play a cover.
What's taking them so long?

There are so many factors to have a guitar play in tune, that I think many buyers are going to find themselves disappointed. It's like golfers who buy a $400 driver that promises you can't slice the ball with this one. Give me any club and I can give you the biggest banana spin on the planet.
What if you were playing a gig and the tuners malfunctioned wildly right in the middle of a song? What if they malfuntion and lock up?
I don't see the need.
Now a guitar that plays requests of songs you don't know would be great.

That thing's crazy. No doubt they could make it play itself, just program the set list, set it on a stand and sit back at the bar. Collect your pay at the end of the night.

Do you think that in the future it will be a long lost art of knowing how to manually tune your guitar?

Do you think that in the future it will be a long lost art of knowing how to manually tune your guitar? For many the art of tuning by hand and ear is already gone thanks to electronic tuners. It's amazing how many are willing to accept a tuner's idea of a guitar being ready. I own a fine Peterson strobe and I still fine tune the end result, because open string tuning and what works with our own individual finger pressure, etc - is a different matter.

Being able to go to alternate tunings is cool but I don't use them. I would not buy this guitar.
