This time is was a '59 burst. It's postively thievish that they let these go for $2300. The workmanship, playability and tone are easily in the league of axes costing double that.
Some of you may remember my post last year about "didn't buy-it-remorse", or the regret that you didn't buy something (in that case, a goldtop R7 for $1700 new). While this might not be as great a deal on paper (the R7 lists for much a bit more), it's deja vu all over again.
The guitar I played is everything a Gibbie used to be-- immaculate finish, quality binding, flawless fret finishing, etc.
I know a Hamer will never have the resale of a Gibbie, but when I buy guitars I wed them, so it's all about the relationship after the honeymoon, not the trade-in.
Unfortunately, I'm also hankering for an Artist Custom (the Hamer take on a 336/339 style guitar).
If you had to choose a solid body Lester or a semi-hollow 335ish guitar to be your only dual humbucker axe, which would you choose?
In a perfect world, we'd all be able to afford handmade custom works of art like these Hamers that sell for less than the CNC mass-produced PRS that are pumped out like so many widgets.
If any of your are near Willcutt's, you owe it to yourself to play one of these Hamer Monacos. They sound so incredible played crystal clean, then you add a little dirty an OH MY!
Dare I blow my custom turbocharger money again? (did it last year to buy my Stang Ray).

Hey Hohn, have you had a chance to play the Talladega yet? If so, what did you think. I'm really interested in something new and different but the closest place for me to try one is 7 hours away. I hadn't given much thought to Hamers until reading one of your posts about 6 months ago and now I have to admit I'm really fascinated by them. Apparently they are so quality conscious they reject more wood than most companies use. According to Joe Danzig the Talladega is a cross between Fender and Gibson. The tone clips on the site and in the reviews are nice but I'd sure like to hear the opinion of someone non-biased with a little experience.

Bob, if unbiased is what you want, you should probably ask someone else. I like hamers a bunch.
If I get to play a Talladega, I'll post it up.
The clips of it are interesting-- a very unique sound unlike anything else I've heard. I'm not sure where it will find its niche.
