When I started driving in 1970 I started going to a nice local music store. They had one of these until at least 1971 before they finally unloaded it cheap.

$138 for shipping? You'd think for 18 grand he could throw that in.
Did you see the '51 Nocaster he's selling? That one's a mere $145,000...

Jeez... I have a 1967 Tele here that is a Frankenstein. It was all in pieces when I got it, and whoever had it before me had done unspeakable evil to it. I've thought about restoring it many times, but never got started. This might be a good reason to explore that....

The prices of these guitars are going through the roof: even the Japanese reissues. I've been watching these on ebay (to replace a reissue that now lives with my ex-fiance; long story) and even the Japanese ones are going for over $1000 when I paid $500 for mine about 5 years ago. This guy does have some pretty nice stuff for sale, even if he doesn't get what he's asking.

I'm kicking myself for not buying the Japanese all rosewood Tele from 10 or 12 years ago. Those have been appreciating quite nicely. At that time I took my amp to the local store and tried all of the Fender Teles. I bought the American standard. The rosewood's pickups squealed other wise I would've bought it. I had to get rid of the American Standard Tele pretty quick. Something about the finish on the maple fingerboard. It was always sticky. A friend of mine has a pretty nice '59 Tele toploader. I wanted to be impressed but those little necks and low frets just don't work for me. He took it to Arlington but it didn't sell. He said the expensive stuff just wasn't moving down there this year.

I have never liked the finish on any "all maple" tele/strat neck - the laquer always feel sticky to me. I much prefer pure woods on the fretboards. (ebony, rosewood, padouk etc etc) Cheers: Dixiechicken
