Has anybody here found it easier or more difficult to adjust from playin' a 22-fret guitar neck and then playin' on a 24-fret guitar neck? My apologies if this sounds like a crazy/silly/stoo-pid question .... but I got a sweee-t guitar recently and I am havin' a def-vil of a time makin' the adjustment from my history of playin' 22-fret guitars to this new 24-fret neck. Any ideas/input would be greatly appreciated - I don't wanna give-up on this particular guitar yet ..... cheers, eh Joel

Thanks Curt - mostly I don't make it past the 5th fret myself very often, but in a moment of craZiness I picked up a 24 fretter. d'oh as for the gee-tar in my avatar, it's from an small builder I made friends with on myspace ..... will send you a pm later today with details, eh ;D

Joel, I actually had the same problem except the other way around. I was used to 24 frets and couldn't get used to 22. Everytime I played right up the neck I'd base where I was by the end of the neck and I played some doosies a couple times. I've gotten used to it now though. Just a matter of time.

Is it just the look of it that throws you? It's just a little longer fret board, right? I would try just playing only that guitar for a few weeks. You should get more comfortable with it. If not, then maybe it's not for you. What guitar is it - maybe I could take it off your hands? ;D
All mine are 22, but the 60s' Players Strat I recently got has 21. Once in a while I'll go up there and miss the 22nd, but I just bend the 21st (1/2 - 1 1/2 steps, depending on what I need). But I'm not usually doing a lot of work that high, so it isn't a big deal.

I notice a difference when changing from my main guitar (Les Paul) to a Strat due to the scale difference, not so much the number of frets. I had a PRS Custom 24 that I played for a couple years in rotation with a Strat and Paul, now were talking three different scale lengths. They are all cool in their own way, just different. Its rough on the wallet when you like em all. ;D

I don't like 24 fret guitars. Mostly 24 fret guitars are humbucker equipped.
And to accomodate the 2 extra frets, they move the neck pickup closer to the bridge. Just a little, but enough to change the tone. I didn't like my 24 fret guitar for this reason.

Those teeny tiny spaces between the frets at the top don't fit my big fat fingers...
I agree with gtrman3 about the pup position change tho'.

To me a guitar is a guitar is a guitar. It's extremely rare that I find myself at the 21st fret or higher. The only thing I've realized is that I don't really care for vintage radius and tiny narrow frets.

I live on the neck pickup so I'd never want that pickup moved closer to the bridge.

good points about the location of the neck 'bucker with the extra frets .... am still workin' on findin' the love for 24 frets .... but I don't feel any g.a.s. pressure (yet) to get rid of the guitar .... strange but true. cheers, eh Joel
