After having some real good input from some other members on this forum, I wanted to say Thanks for all your valuable opinions that helped me make my mind up to buy the American Deluxe Strat that I had been considering trading for my Maz-18. Just decided to buy the Strat outright and am very content with my purchase. Now I have a nice playing, sounding, workhorse Strat and still have my Z. Couldn't have worked out better, Thanks to all who responded to my other post about "is this a fair trade" .

Congrats on getting a great guitar! Just got my Am Del Strat a little over a week ago, and have used an Am Del Tele for the last 4 years...they are very well made guitars. The problem I had with the S-1 system was that once on stage, having 10 usable sounds was overload for my noggin. ;D I couldn't half remember if the button was in or out, and that combined with my pedal board & everything else I'm trying to remember was just too much. So I'm about to drop in a set of Fralin bs's with a standard 5 way switch. The guitar is a beauty and the neck is superior, so I think the 'old school' system will make this thing a true keeper.

You made a good choice. Below I've pasted my 2005 Am Deluxe V-neck Strat. It's a bit heavier than I wanted originally, but it's a great axe. I swapped out all the chrome parts for gold. Sweet.

Those are some sweet lookin Strats ! Mine is the sunburst w/ a rosewood board, plays like a dream and like you said, it will take a while to really be able to get used to all the differant sound combinations available, but I'm having a blast trying!

I had looked at these strats after I saw them in the Frontline catalog from 2005. I played one and couldn't believe how comfortable that V-neck was to play. I was surprised. If I ever owned a strat, it would be one like yours (minus the gold hardware, of course)! ;D You say tomayto... I'm like Bill on the S-1 stuff. I mean, check out my signature quote. Give me a Les Paul Junior and cement the tone knob at its sweet spot (which reminds me of a Happy Days episode in which Fonzie "fixed" a trombone so the slide would stop moving around).

I own the sunburst strat, and it's by far the best strat i've ever played. Great tone, great feel. I havent replaced the PU's either, and it sounds great with a Z. I hardly ever use the S-1 button, i love that bluesy strat sound.

i started a thread called strat w/s switching pickups.
havent gotten any responses yet. can someone tell me what happens when you swap pickups? are those additional tones(w/ button pushed in) still available? does that just work with the stock cobalt noiseless pickups.
i want to get those pickups out of there, and was wondering if i should just replace all of the electronics?
btw pittsburgh player, you made the right choice. congrats on the new strat too. it looks great. ;D

Don't know about switching the pots when changing pickups, though years ago when I changed out the pickups on my Stratocaster Elite circa 80's I had to have volume and tone controlls changed too. That Strat also had push buttons to change between pickups so installed a 5 way switch. The only trouble was no one made a pickguard for normal sized pickups for that guitar so had to route one from uncut pickguard material. As for the S-1 pots it would most likely be easier to pull out the whole pickup and pickguard assembly and start fresh, that way to change it back all you have to do is drop in the original equipment.

I played one and couldn't believe how comfortable that V-neck was to play. Yeah, that was the selling point for me, for sure. I've since become spoiled on the "soft-V" shape. it feels great in my hand. As for the gold hardware, my favorite Strat in terms of cosmetics has always been the Mary Kay - white with gold hardware. Since I couldn't afford a real Mary Kay I went with the honey blonde and bought the gold pieces a couple at a time till I had replaced 'em all. I like the warm feel of the honey blonde with gold.

I've always liked the V-neck on my 1981 natural finish ash Elite Stratocaster, its a maple neck and a hard V ,thumb over style playing, but a smokin lead guitar. I still have the 1st set of aftermarket pickups in it which are EMG's SA's, came pre wired, pots and all, they are active pickups, but have a great sound. The American Deluxe Strat I just bought has the "C" shape neck w/ rosewood board, I usually prefer maple but starting to get to really like the rosewood.By the way I bought that Elite Strat new in late 1982 and it still looks new and still has original frets !

Gary, how do you like the Kinmans?
I had a late-90s Am Del Strat w/ rw board (and hence, alder body, iirc). That was a truly killer ballsy strat that I regret parting with. I just begged to be wailed upon and was a glutton for punishment. It was a really stout Strat-- felt very sold.
The oxblood red color was cool, but the minty pickguard wasn't my thing.

I like the Kinmans quite a bit. I don't have any other strat pups to compare them to though and I'm afraid to try a set of Fralins or something. If I like them better, I'd have to buy the Suhr noiseless system too since I hate noise, and I've spent way too much money lately.
The Kinmans work fine for me; record well too and always sounds like a strat.

know what you mean gary. i hate the noise too. i thought the stock noiseless pickups in my american deluxe were gonna be great for me, then i started playing them for awhile.
i would love to pop some fralins in there, but cant live with that noise.
played jwr's grosh strat with the suhr backplate system. it was dead quiet. beautiful guitar too.
i'm thinking about giving the dimarzio area 58 & 61 a shot. have heard real good things about them.
