Wanted to know if you all think this is a fair trade, or if I'm on the loosing end before I make a move. I can trade a Maz-18 2x10 w/verb,blond for a brand new Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster, S-1 pickup system,SCN pickups, sunburst w/rosewood neck, case included, this is from local store, comes with full warranty, I need a Strat that I can play out more since some of my other ones are older and becoming more valuable. Any thoughts ?

I wouldn't not do that trade - fair or not. Here's my reasoning: You say you want a guitar for playing out more - one you don't feel afraid of loosing, getting broken/stolen etc - if I got it right? In such a case why don't you buy an in-expensive instrument. Buy one of those Korean/Taiwan made Telecasters - as an example - (I'm a Teleplayer - but you could apply the thinking to your case.) In our local music stor they have those for less than 300 us-$:s - don't know if case is included. I have tried several of them - they look good - they play well, they sound good. If I wasn't saving up for my Route-66 - I would have bought one on the spot - for the money they can't be beat. Asian made they won't be worth anything - in any great hurry - you can bash them up to your hearts content. That's my take anyway - good luck with your decision. Cheers: Dixiechicken

PP, If you trade the Z which amp do you use? Your amp new is $1649. You can buy the strat at MF for $1200.00 and have no interest financing for a year, no sales tax and free shipping. www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Fender-American-Deluxe-Stratocaster?sku=511142The SCN pups are ok. Clearly, a set of Fralins or Lollars would take the new strat to a much better place. Your Z is the real voice of your guitars. I have three Fender early 70's amps, all to black face specs and cosmetics. My two Z amps ( a 1-12Jr and 1-12 Sr) simply walk all over the Fenders. My point being if you have an amp that does what your JR does then trade it other wise hang on to your Z and find your strat. Good luck. Rick

Any thoughts ? do the trade, but *only* if: 1) this Strat is a special one to you and no other Strats you played will fill the shoes of being your gig guitar. 2) Maz is just sitting around doing nothing. 3) you don't have enough money to buy a gig-Strat outright. 4) you were going to sell your Maz anyway.

Good advice here...I'd also suggest finding another way to fund the strat purchase.

Strats are everywhere. Z's aren't. Doesn't seem right to me. The store wouldn't do it if they weren't making money on the deal.

I agree w/both. Stores do trades to make a profit. Dollar to dollar, you're on the short end of the transaction.
Figure you've got $1000-1200 setting there as the amp on the resale market. Sell it and take the cash to buy what you want. And, with that much green you'd be able to buy a REALLY great guitar on the resale market (ebay, harmony central, here, craiglist, etc).

You're ALWAYS better off financially, selling equipment, rather than trading it.
Good luck!

Thanks all for some good advice, its good to get another point of view, as far as the Maz goes I don't use it a whole lot, but not pressed to dump it on a bad trade, I thought the guitar played well and felt comfortable but was not in the mood to shell out $1200.00 + tax for a secondary working guitar, I have some nice Teles and Strats here that I feel may not be able to be replaced for that kind of money, so I wanted a good quality guitar to play that would be comparable but not in the value range of say an older instrument. Don't know if this makes any sense or not, as far as amps go I have 6 differant amps now, and I sort of bond with one for a while and play that one exclusively for a while, currantly I'm digging my VibroKing at the moment, not that I don't like Maz-jr its a great amp IMO.

I would have to say no to that deal.If you sell your amp on ebay you can get more for it than the guy can get for the strat in my opinion...............Sterling

Keep in mind your used amp has depreciated to the value of a new Strat. That new Strat will lose significant value as soon as you walk out the door. So a more fair trade would be something with a used value equal to your amp, like a Strat and a Mexi Tele both.

Why not put the amp in the Buy/Sell/Trade section and see if anyone has a a guitar thy would trade you? You might get something a little more to your liking. I have a Strat with the S1. It was cool at first, but it doesn't get out much now.

Since you're asking for opinions .... not a good trade. I found a wonderful, wonderful American Strat for $500. Try finding a Maz combo for that price.
Additionally, I have an American Deluxe Tele with the S-1 system. If I had to do it all over, I would have purchased just an American Tele WITHOUT the S-1. Don't use it much and takes away from the "Tele" sound. I would think the same with a Strat.

IMHO, my $.02
NO, it stinks. No way would I ever consider a new Strat to be an even trade for a Maz Jr combo. Haven't heard good things about the SCN pickups and not a big fan of off the shelf new Fenders. If it were a vintage or custom shop then maybe. You are trading a boutique amp for a factory built guitar. As others have said, sell the Maz then buy a Strat.

Would not consider the trade. Best way would be to sell the amp out right and buy the Strat you want and have some money left,JMHO. You can find an excellent condition Strat for less, a lot less than a new one, just my $.02.

I would not do that trade, The store is getting over on you, it's what they do when trading.
I have a KILLER Jimmie Vaughn Strat here that I'll sell you for $500 shipped and I guarantee It''ll hang with or more likely smoke the S-1.
Or.......... I'll offer it too you as $500 worth of trade fodder against your MAZ.
Ask most everyone who has responded to this thread what kind of gear I have, I promise you..this is a really good, gig ready/worthy Strat.
It has played a number of gigs and been used on two CD's, go to my My Space and listen to "She's Gone", all guitar parts are this JV straight into a Ghia>V30.
Why sell?
I have aquired two Custom Shops Strat's I adore, not any better than the JV, just me being a snob ;^).
Lemme know, Curt

I would say don't do it.
Of course, that's probably because I play teles and not strats, so......yeah, grain of salt "and such as" (tribute to Miss Teen America).

Don't do it for that trade, I have that guitar, and believe me it's great and one of the best purchases of my life, but a Z maz jr is no way acceptable in a trade for something in stock continously at guitar center/musiciansfriend, etc. Not everyone has a Z. keep the damn thing.

dont do the trade. never, ever trade a piece of gear to a music store. its all been said here. i have 2 american deluxe strats, i like mine, but they are everywhere. (& those pickups are coming out as soon as i decide what ones i'll get to replace them) sell your amp privately or here. (or talk more to curt) if you take your time, you could turn that amp into 2 decent strats. if you take your time you might just decide its an amp worth keeping
