Yep, that's a Maz 18 NR from 2002...a decade old now! And, there are folks out there who still insist it was the best tone I ever had out of all the stuff I've been through (and still own). But, they haven't heard the M12 yet either! Really impossible to pick a favorite. I think the M12 hits the sweet spot with pedals sooner, but that's expected, given the wattage. I can say that after whacking on these two side-by-side like this, I'd really like to hear a Maz 8!

Nice looking family you got there. Yep, that's a Maz 18 NR from 2002...a decade old now! Seriously though, the Maz8 is the coolest single-ended amp I've played. It's a mini Maz! I got it in the studio cab and it's really portable. Sweet little grab and go.

LOL! A lot folks are turned off by the fact that cost per wattage it actually makes more sense to get the 18. I have the 18 too, and I love it, it was my first Z. But I'm glad I took the plunge on the 8. It get's to the sweet spot and is still reasonable in volume.

Yes, I was surprised how much the Maz 8 cost compared to the 18, but the 18 is an absolute BEAST, volume-wise, even compared to the quite punchy M12, which seems restrained by comparison. I'd bet the 8 would hit the sweet spot for me even more often than the M12. We'll see. Two gigs lined up this week for the M12!

Awesome. Let us know how the M12 gigs. I've yet to have one since getting mine. Will do. In a way, I'm glad the two last week were cancelled because it gave me more time to hit a nasty project deadline at work (which required 10-11 hour days) AND get that WGS BH HP broken in and mounted in the M12 combo. I feel like I have the thing totally optimized and dialed in.for its gig debut. Now, I'm dying to see how it works in a real band mix!

How did the 12 make out at the gigs?

It absolutely kicked arse. Haven't had much time to edit down any clips yet, but from what I've heard so far, they match or exceed any tones I've recorded so far, IMO. Don't know how it can really get any better really...just different. I loved the way I could hear myself with this amp while also being just the right volume for the house unmic'ed.

I also like the way pedals sounded consistently ideal, from the lower volumes we started out with to the volumes I had to adjust up to in order to keep up with the drummer as the night went on. Never ran out of clean headroom and the pedals always sounded like the amp was ideally dialed in for them. Really quite magical and mysterious, actually.

Awesome, glad to hear that it rocked the house! So did you record the live show?

Awesome, glad to hear that it rocked the house! So did you record the live show? I recorded two live shows with it, but just with a little H2. The first show sucked for a whole bunch of reasons, but I got a better recording out of it because the H2 had to be placed behind the mains and closer to the amp and was picking up the direct amp sound. The second show had much better performances, but the H2 had to be placed further away from the stage, so it picked up a mix of direct and main sound...and a lot of audience chatter at times. I have clips now ready from THAT gig of sections I'm not ashamed to share(!), but the sound guy mixed me a a bit too low, but you can still hear the great tone. The tone from both nights is amazing, for what I'm after anyway. I compared those clips to some recent clips using a different high quality boutique amp and the M12 w/ pedals sounded much better to me. I will be using the M12 again at the next gig. It's giving me that go-to amp vibe for sure.
