Seymour Duncan Vintage stacks - and you'll get rid of the hum - real relief. ;D
If the tone-cap is .047üF - change it to .022 üF - that way you'll reduce the treble cut - to a much more useable level.
You can also try out a 0.010 üF cap in across the middle pin and hot pin - going to tone control and output jack - of your volume pot.
This allow some treble bleed to the amp when you lower the volume on your guitar. Else you will often experience a significant treble drop when you lower you guitar volume.

DC's got exactly what you need to do. The stock tone cap is fine for the bridge pickup but way too much for the neck pickup. I can't remember for sure but I think I used an even smaller value cap than that on mine.

Tone caps are a very personal thing. I find with a good taper volume pot a .047 beats just about everything else (for my playing!). Any decent cap is fine, I usually like Orange Drops and Mallorys best.
Fralins are great, as are Lollars, Voodoos, Don Mares, Van Zandt, Duncan, the list goes on. Some amps really love teles, others take some tweaking.

My USA tele came with a .022 uF polypro cap stock, so have a look before you buy one. I love the Amalfitano pickups in my tele. Like the quarter pounders in output, but more typical tele sound (but fatter and warmer). mysite.verizon.net/res8n7ad/amalfitanopickups/id2.html

play4jc, I agree with Chrisrice.; either use a .047 or even a .1. I have had incredible success using Sozo caps. My choice for pups are either Fralin or Lollar. thanks! Rick

It doesn't take but a minute to swap a cap,so if I were you I would try some different ones untill you find the one you like best......Sterling

I've changed pickups so often in one of my Teles that I searched for a couple good buys at pawn shops etc. Now I "audition" new pickups in the budget Teles before going through all the work in my player Teles.
As far as quarter pounders go... they are great!... but the Tele twang isn't really what they do. I just switch from SD neck and SD Quarter pounder to Texas Specials... These are nice too but now I think I'm going for Fralins instead.
...and the quest goes on!

In my american tele I'm using a lil '59 in the bridge and it sounds really mean. Definitely a good pickup to consider.

I agree with the right pot and cap combo. All pots will vary in spec. If you can take the time measure your pot with your VOM. It should read pretty close to 250k, if it get below 215-220 or so it's gonna be muddier and not sound good. Remember, the higher the K ohm, the brighter it will be. Some of the crappy cheap pots are way off spec, and lots of folks think it's the guitar or their P.U.'s, so it's always worth the time to make sure your in the ball park there. Get a CTS or Alpha and check it too. Now on the caps, somewhere along the line fender switched from .050 which is Vintage spec., that value is no longer made except for a few boutique cap makers so .047 will be way close enough. It does matter to my ear what cap you use, but like all things tone it is subjective. Ceramics are not as smooth and can sound harsh and somewhat wooly, but that might work for some. The radio shack polyesters are horribly harsh to some.I have a vintage black beauty .047 thats really nice, but HUGE and is tough to fit in there! I hear that the oil and paper caps are the shizz, bout $20.00 tho. Yes that value is darker and tapers faster when rolled off, but with a " good cap" it can sound fantastic. With a cheap radio shack it may sound like mudd. So the moral is experimentation.
Ahhh pickups, ... i have loved fralins, but just went with a Lollar vintage bridge and it's amazing. He only pots them just enough, but leaves them almost a tiny bit microphonic, which for me is part of "the" sound!! Very open and dynamic, but still thick and middy enough for me, for what it's worth. Best of luck!

I have Fralins and I'm very happy with them. I feel she sounds like a Tele. (but... what does this really means???!!!)

Guess i should re-phrase my last; I still love fralins! Just that the lollars are an excellent deviation if one is so inclined. As probably are amalfitanos and, and, ..... - So much depends on the guitar itself! I think the only way to truly compare would be to somehow quickly swap PU's in your guitar

I've used lollar, amalfitanos, duncan (Jerry DOnahue/VIntage 54) and the stock Fenders in mine.
I find the Lollars the closest to vintage spec, and very nice, the stock Fender ones bright and shrill, the Duncans are a little warmer and darker than stock (but pretty good overall) and the Amalfitanos are very non traditional almost a cross between a tele pickup and a P90.
I liked everything but the stock fenders. I do like the stock pickups in the 52 RI teles, much warmer sounding.
