Hi Folks
Had a used Maz 38 Sr head with 2 x 10 cab for a while now and don't really think it sounds as good as it could/should.
Looking to replace the tubes to try and breathe some new life into the amp.
Any recommendation for various tubes in particular positions would be much appreciated.
I understand the significant impact different tubes can have and I'm looking to really max out the potential of the amp!

You should find out what tubes Doc is shipping them with. Those are usually a very good choice. Maybe a NOS rectifier for dependability.

Thanks Doc001.
I understand the rectifier tubes last a lot longer than the other tubes and are therefore worth spending on? Anyone care to chime in with their testimonies and recommendations please? Likewise, if anyone knows what tubes the amps are being shipped with (I assume these will be equally suited to my amp being pre-EQ bypass?).
Other tube testimonies and recommendations would be most welcome!
Cheers

Just go to www.drzamps.com/tube_info.html for current tube info. In my Maz 38 reverb head I've pretty much stuck to what the amp came with, apart from a Mullard GZ34 rectifier which I bought for longevity, though the stock Sovtek sounds totally fine to me. I think the Doc is shipping these with EH EL84's now, as JJ's quality has gone down, though I'm still using JJ's in mine with no problems. Just get them from a reputable dealer who selects and burns them in themselves. I currently have a reissue Tung Sol 12AX7 in V1 just to try, and I just got home from the first gig with that tube. It sounded nicely balanced to me with maybe a little more treble than the stock JJ ECC83S. I may still go back to the JJ though. This is just me, others here have their own preferences, and of course we all hear things differently anyway. Good luck, it's a great amp!

Thanks Mickey
Thanks for the link. Just checked it out. Here's the info found there for anyone else following this thread out of interest:
Maz 38 NR: V1: JJ ECC83S, V2: JJ ECC83S, V3: Sovtek 12AX7LPS, V4-7: Electro Harmonix EL84 (matched quad), V8: Sovtek 5AR4
I think I'm going to go for the Mullard rectifier tube also.
Thanks again.

You're welcome. I like that Tung Sol in V1, just did another gig with it today, much louder this time and again the Maz did sound more open and nicely balanced. I did hear a bit more treble than with the JJ, but it's a nice treble, smoother. Usually what's good enough for the Doc is good enough for me, but I'm sticking with this for a while.

I just loaded my MAZ Senior (reverb) with a fresh set of Ruby tubes. It's singing for sure right now!

Well, what sounds good is good, I've never tried those though. I went back to the stock JJ in V1, as the Tungsol started humming. Sounds fine to me.
