I love mine (since 1980). Very scooped (mids) sound. Brighter than my Les Paul. Large body, but sits well on me.

Joel, I had blonde 333. I changed the pups to fralin unbuckers..sounded much better. I also had a 135 with Gibby P-100's and bigsby. I ended up trading both for a 1976 tobacco burst 335 very similar layout to the pic above me. There's something about a 335 that gives ya GAS. Bottom line is when you find her you will know. The Heritage guitars are excellent. I haven't played a yamaha. BTW, the 335 sounds wonderful with my MAZ JR and SR. Good luck in your search. Rick

I have a Heritage 535, and its a wonderful guitar - even with inlayed headstock, and wood upgrade, cost about $600 less then a comparable 335 ( I paid $1770.00). If you can get one used, even better, as they do depreciate. Some people get the p/u upgrade, but I think the stock ones sound very good.
If you are on a tight budget, look at the Epiphones. Its amazing what you get for $400!!!! Good Luck.

I was looking at an EPI Elitist Sheraton. The one with all of the fancy inlays. Really cool looking! Those recent Guild Starfires were very good. Reverend's got some new semihollows. I think the Eastwood Savannah lookls good. The Hofner is cool and it has a 25-1/2" scale.

jaamz - thanks for the input. yes, the chambered double cut L.P. would be a sweet axe .... think it just bumped out any of the Yamaha or Ibanez gee-tars ... dang this g.a.s. gtrman3 - that's a beauty Rick - think you may be right about work for 333 ... ah, gotta love the Heritage guitars jvdunne - missed out on a 535 a couple of years ago, and almost bought one earlier this year .... and, billy - those Hofner's are pretty cool still doin' my homework and savin' up some bucks

You really ought to check out the new Collings electrics. The I35 deluxe is just unbelievable. The Collings web site is good, but there are more photos at Fat Sound Guitars where I bought mine. They will just blow you away!

I'm thinkong that geetar would kill it through a KT45. Think the Australian band The Living End ala' Stray Cats meets AC/DC.

Grover George, speaking of the Living End, Chris Cheney's supposed to be coming out with his own sig soon. It's supposed to have he 16" body of a Nashville but the neck of a Falcon. Also, if you look at '05's or previous you'll get the real flamboyant Falcon with humblock inlays, vertical logo and no trestle bracing. Like this:

The Collings are very cool but mucho dinero! Yeah, they are a bit pricey. But, since I have been consolidating equipment, I've found enough $ to pay for some indulgences. Just decided I didn't need as much stuff as I had. I'm now very happy with two acoustics, two electrics & two amps instead of the basement full of toys I had before.

Thanks for the link! I love seeing nice pictures of annies. They really are a great guitar even if they started out as a poor man's 6120. They've kind of grown into their own, know what I mean? Mine's got TV Jones Classics in it and a custom guard is being made right now. It'll be awesome but with the pickguard look COMPLETELY different. I can't wait to see it!
The reason I mention the '05 or previous is because a lot of Falcon lovers really love ALL the glitz and glam possible and while some people may enjoy a more sedate look with thumbnails and a horizontal logo, most people know that the whole idea behind the falcon is over the top.

I've owned two Yamaha SA models over the years. An 800 and a 1100. Both were great guitars, the 1100 being the best. The pickups were changed out to a SD 59 in the neck and a PRS Deep Dish in the bridge. I should have kept that one - it was dead mint and so toneful. Guys at a local jam begged me to keep it.
I always had my heart set on snagging a SA-2000 and played a few that were just as satisfying as a 335. I think most players would be very happy with an 1100, 2000, 2100 or 2200. The 800 was the introductory model in its day, so I don't think it has the body resonance of the others - but it was still a fine guitar.

The thing I like about the Falcons is the longer scale.

I've always had a thing for the Black Falcons. They are full hollow not semi.

I showed my fiance' that pic of that silver falcon and joked and with her saying that I had never owned a Gretsch and always been a Fender guy who slung the occasional Les Paul. being the out there groover that I am I let her go the rest of the Gretsch's listed on the www.northcoastguitars.com.au site and she said of all of the ones there that green anniversary suited my personality the most. GO FIGURE The 25 1/2 scale of the falcons would suit my playing a little more i think but hey, that "green machine" does look pretty cool. i reckon i could get some mean Angus Young tones with that and a KT45!!! ;D

Pappy, how do you like the TV Jones pup's? I noticed he has a tele bridge now available. I was thinking of stincking a set in my CIJ 52 RI to see what kind of sound I would get. I have some cheap, but good sounding, GFS in it now. It would be a major upgrade and would require some routing. Just debating as to weather it's worth it or not.

I think it would. TV hold tele's real close t his heart and he wouldn't make parts for it unless he thought he was bettering it significantly (I believe). My Classics are pretty much the best pickups ever. I'd say for tele twang though to go for a Magnatron in the bridge.
What constitutes semi-hollow? The newer falcons (the 06 and newer) have trestle bracing which is a pretty big block of wood, as close to something like a 335 that Gretsch ever got in an effort to increase sustain, make the top vibrate the same as the bottom, and as an added bonus it's supposed to help kill feedback. At low volumes I hear very little difference between treslt and non trestle braced Gretsch's, but I have it on good authority that at high volumes it comes in handy.
The annie's got a pretty roomy fingerboard, definitely worth checking out.
Skydog, if you dig the scale but the glitz of the Falcon just aint doing it for you there's always the Country Club which is pretty much a dressed down Falcon.

Ahh that's right. Actually, the Gretsch models I really like are the Jr models (scaled down bodies). I've seen the White Falcon and I believe the Country Club in Jr sizes and they look really cool (probably feel really good too!).

I played a Hamer semi-hollow not too long ago that felt and sounded pretty good.
They also seem to be rather cost-effective.

I had a 6120 Jr. I changed the pups to TV Jones Classics. They made a big improvement from the stock pups. The 6120jr is totally hollow and prone to early feedback at higher volumes. Gretsch uses a "floating" bridge; good luck find the proper bridge intonation spot if you move the bridge especially on a gig. Also, no inlays at the higher fret positions. I ended up selling the 6120Jr and replaced it with a Gibby es-135. Eventually I traded it for a 335. Rick
