Well, actually, it's from '03. Picked one up today - Les Paul Melody Maker. Needs a little tweaking/setup from the previous owner (i.e. "It's been in the trunk of the car for a few days." - and it's been around 100 degrees lately). Near mint and looks to be a fun guitar for slide and raw P90 tones. Haven't had a chance to plug it in yet - will after the setup. tinyurl.com/26snyaIf it works out, I'll leave the '96 Les Paul Special DC at home and take this out for road gigs. Doesn't have to be pretty, just sound that way.

cool choice I've tried a couple in the last year or so - generally a nice, light guitar with some really cool tone opportunities. you mos' definitely will rock-out with the Melody Maker ;D play-on, eh! Joel

I always thought of those as more of a Les Paul jr but I know Gibson did call them Melody Makers. Those new Melody Makers look like a great buy.

Yup, this one is very similar to the Les Paul Jr. Part of the reason I jumped on it...to keep the nice Special DC out of harm's way on the road. Same bridge pup/electronics. Little different body/headstock mass. Did an out/back in Omaha NE with some friends today so I'll have to start the setup on Monday. That new dual pup Melody Maker (with the more traditional single coil pups) looks interesting too - haven't played one, but might be a cool slide guitar.
