I received the video in the mail today. I didn't get to see it in the theater. I think Disney really dropped the ball with this feature. I don't mean the actual production. I think it was their promotional department that really missed the mark. Here you have a century old character with tons of material and folk lore attached to it. Not to mention he is an original character of Edgar Rice Burroughs (the creator of Tarzan).
I watched the video today and thought it was great.
Has anyone else seen the film? Opinions?

I read all the John Carter books, as well as some of the Venus and Pellucidar novels.
I enjoyed the movie. Based on the reviews, I thought it was going to be a stinker, but it was quite entertaining. Imo, though, it fell into some of the pitfalls of the big spectacle, high action film and the characters weren't quite as well developed. suppose Andrew Stanton had to compromise on multiple dimensions since he didn't have the clout that Peter Jackson does to turn one novel (The Hobbit) into three films.

I thought it was gonna be terrible based on the reviews, but both me and my kids loved it. I think the problem was that nobody knew what the hell it was...I know I sure didn't based on the commercials and previews, so I didnt bother with it when it came out.
I hope they change theirs minds and still put out the sequels. There is some rumor that it may get picked up by another studio.
