Well a sound clip or a video would have to be of a pedal or something as this is designed to be a pedal reproducer.

From what I hear from the shop guys it sounds/feels great on its own, straight into the amp.... It really does, Phil. I got to spend 20 minutes or so with the M12 yesterday before the show opened. I didn't have any pedals with me so I just plugged straight in to see what she sounded like. I'll be honest, I was skeptical about the M12 and its release as a pedal platform, but it has all the Dr Z sweetness you would expect from any Z. In 20 minutes I went from "I don't think that amp would be right for me, to I'm gonna have to order myself a head," and there was not a pedal involved at all. Great job Doc, the M12 sounds very nice. I'll try to post some more of my thoughts when I have a few more minutes.

Was your initial impression that the "Stang Ray crossed with Z Wreck" (at lower power) description rings true?

Yeah. I've been trying to sum up my thoughts on the M12. The amp felt great. It had a nice attack and was not too soft on the front end with the ef86. It had a very stright forward tone, as it should to be a good pedal platform. It stays punchy when turned up loud too, that is what I liked most about it. It didn't get too dirty, it had nice sustain, and it got nice and chimey again when you rolled off the guitar a little.
The tonestack was pretty much what I expected. I found everything at noon to be a very nice full sounding clean tone. If you go up from there it will start to get a little hairy, but never too dirty. All the controls at 3:00 sounded pretty sweet.
Some comparisons (IMHO):
Compared to the Ghia: Stayed cleaner Maz 18: Less Voxy, a touch of american flavor Stangray: much less voxy, probably similar breakup cranked, just quieter Z-Wreck: I'd say cleaner, the Z-Wreck is designed to get pretty dirty when cranked
It sounded great with the tele, but would really rock with a Les Paul when it is cranked up.
I think this amp will cover a lot of ground, as long a 12 watts is enough for your situation. I think it goes without saying, that with a few pedals you will be able to get whatever you want.

Yes, I intended to state that in my above post.
I'm thinking with a Blue, it may be more like a little stang ray.

Good review! That's exactly where I'd put it. I'd also add that it's less percussive than a Stang Ray, and a bit thicker, like the Z-Wreck.

how would this pair with a Z28, a Maz 8 and a Matchless spitfire?? Tone wise?
The Spitfire has been my larger venue (for ME) amp, and the Maz8 is the shizz for everything else.
The Z28 I just cant sell, and its a 1x12 with a Greenback.
Thanks!

The Rt 66 is much thicker sounding. I'm sure the guys are humbucker will correct me if I'm way off base, but the M12 is similar in feel to the Z28, just has el84s as compared to 6v6s. The el84s have a little more chime, which brings out its similarities to the stang ray and the z wreck, but I could feel how it fits into the z28/rt66 camp also.

Not sure about the Z28 connection, but the M12 sounds and feels nothing like a Route 66 to me. My two R66s did not take pedals well and just did not seem to have much clarity and articulation. The M12 is the polar opposite on all counts.

the one I played had more of the sparkle that the Stang Rays have. Nice botton end and tones of clean head room, when it did break up it was a nice crisp overdrive my 2 cents, Todd
