Hi all. I read on the Z site that the Mazerati was designed as a "louder" Ghia.
Do they sound the same clean and cranked?
Do they react to pedals in the same way? If a pedal works well through the Ghia, will it also work well with the Mazerati?
How about power tubes and rectifier tubes? Same tonal effects in both, or different?
Thanks for any help!

I believe the first Mazeratis were designed to be a louder Ghia as requested by Joe Walsh. The Mazerati was then re designed a couple years ago and was probably a little cleaner and more AC30ish. The Mazerati has since been discontinued and a new higher gain Mazerati GT is forthcoming. I don't think any Mazerati will sound exactly like a Ghia but the earlier ones are probably closest in sound. Like all Zs they take pedals well and will be sensitive to changes in tubes; experimentation with tubes etc is part of the fun of owning a Z.

Thanks for the info zgrip. I noticed the Mazerati part of the forum is not so active, and so thought that maybe these earlier Mazeratis were close enough to the Ghia to be able to apply any insights regarding the Ghia to the Maz. Everyone, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on that! I'm new to the whole Z thing, so I'm just trying to soak up some info. Thanks again.

I think there are a few less Mazerati users on the forum, and they have been out of production for a year or so. That likely accounts for the lack of posts. I always loved the Mazerati, its a bigger sounding, cleaner amp than the ghia, with less saturation, compression and gain. Similar for sure, but not identical.

I have been curious about the tone between the Ghia and Mazeratis as well. Thanks for posting your comparison. I think the mini Z head and 1x12 cab may be my next addition.

I just sold my rati ,I owned both for over a year the rati I had (2003) was a clean machine beatiful cleans lots of head room great plat form for pedals the ghia has less head room but is surprisingly loud and grinds a little sooner I wasnt getting as much use out of the rati ,most my gigs are resturants and small clubs the ghia works well. I know I'm going to miss the rati but I dont like having stuff thats not being used .
