I just noticed that the main transformer in my new Ghia is mounted to the chassis at a slight angle. Seems secure, just sits at a slight angle to the chassis.
Is this normal?
Now that I think about it, I vaguely remember seeing this with some old vintage amps before.
Right now I don't have any other amps around to compare to.

Probably took a hit in shipping, most of my amps have had that from the "package handlers".

My ghia and Z 28 both have a little bit of that. Doesn't affect anything that I can tell, just make sure that the bolts are tight.

This is gonna sound weird, but in looking closer it looks like the tranny's mounting tabs where it bolts to the chassis appear to be sort of rounded (hard to describe) where the tabs on the right side are at a sharp 90 degree angle. Looks almost like it is supposed to be like this, with the left side standing off slightly higher from the chassis than the right. Nothing looks bent or loose, or damaged in any way.
Maybe I can figure out how to post a pic.
I swear I think I remember reading something about this with some vintage amp transformers, like it was done that way for a reason.
Anyway, anyone with a recent Ghia that could look at theirs would be appreciated.

I've seen pictures of amps with rooster-eyed transformers. Usually blamed on United Package Smashers.

Mine has the odd shape to- sort of leans- I put it down to life's little oddities and as nothing seems anything less than over-built, I'm not concerned! Brett

I've never even looked in the amp except to put some tube dampeners on. Sounds good, that's pretty much all that counts. ;-) I'll have to take a look when I get home.

Mine is also off angle but it never affected anything.

Mine's a little off too. Looking at it from the front, the left side hangs a little lower. I think it's been like that as long as I remember and it's a 1999 model.

Thanks to all for their responses on this. Situation is resolved, see my post "Are we lucky or what?" over in the Lounge.
Thanks again.

So for those of uswith slightly crooked trannies, what should we do? What is doc's fix for this? thanks He didn't say it was a problem, if I implied that I misspoke. He just confirmed what had caused it and that it hadn't left his place like that. He said there were a lot of them out there like that, but that if it bothered me the thing to do was to remove the chassis and loosen the tranny bolts. Then he said to push down on the tranny as needed until the legs straightened out, rotate the washers so the remaining flat part now matched the tranny mounting legs, and tighten everything up again. It probably wouldn't bother most people, but I'll admit to being a worrier, so I just didn't want to have to think about it anymore.

It's nice to know and thanks for sharing with us how to fix the tranny. I may have to take care of mine this weekend.

Thanks Fasteddie. I think if it's not hurting anything, I'll leave well enough alone; I don't like messing around with that sort of stuff.

Yeah, I don't like to do it either. Mine was pretty slight, maybe 15-20 degrees off. If i had discovered it after 6 months or something I'd a said what the heck, no biggie. But on the same day I brought it home, somehow it bugged me.
But I got the impression that as long as the bolts mounting the tranny to the chassis were tight, there was no cause for worry.

So, the story is this was from a jolt in shipping? Like, the box was dropped or squished such that the cab of the amp was okay, but the OT was actually 'bent' where it connected to the chassis?
(don't have a ghia, but I'm just trying to visualized and comprehend what I'm reading here)

Just had a look at my route 66 and the PT is about 15 degrees off kilter, too. So, all my Z amps have had this, with absolutely no negative effect that I can see.

Okay, lot's of people seem to have leaning transformers.... here's the big question--are they all leaning the same way? Is the amp more prone to fall on it's left, right, front or back. And what if a slice of buttered bread were attached to the shipping box?
