Hi everybody! I just picked up a 2006 Maz 38 1x12 combo and couldn't be happier So far I have noticed that it is next to impossible to get a bad sound out of this amp. Right now I'm running a LP through it and am looking for some ideas for different pedals to run into this amp (overdrive, boosts, delays, etc) but there are too many options! I just ordered an airbrake sa for it so i can goose it a little more than i have been able to. Are there any pedals in particular i should check out in particular? I need a slightly crunchy mid gain rhythm tone that stacks well with a tim (on order) a smooth lead tone, a compressed tone for motown stuff but there are too too many options! Help me! Thanks in advance

Congrats. I love my 38. Take a look at the effects section of this site to get some good info. I had to buy, sell and in many cases re-buy pedals to end up with what I like. I play classic rock, country and hard rock in a bar band as well as folk, 60's rock, blues and country in a project band. This is what I ened up with on by board:
Sweet Honey Overdrive Klon Clone Ep Boost Wampler Pinnacle Babrer Direct drive (en route) Big muff clone fuzz Bonamassa clone fuzzface
pedals that were great pedals too and just recently moved off: Keeley Moded Boss SD 1 Fulltone Fulldrive 2 mosfet
The amp is such a good platform for pedals you can't really go wrong if you know what you are trying to achieve. I have spent a lot of money on expensive pedals and as you can see from my list I ended up loving some DIY pedals made for me by a buddy. Try some out, use your ears. Don't jump for the most expensive OD's thinking they will be the "answer". Many times they are a more expensive version of the same old thing.

Best amp I've ever owned, the Maz 38. I have a head/rev and either a 1x12 or a 2x10 cab. I mainly use the 1x12, and for drive pedals just use a KOT with my Strat, and an OCD with my 335 or Les Paul. These work really well for me, though I also take an Xotic BB which is also really good. I always use an Airbrake with my Maz. Good luck with yours, great piece of kit! ;D

In the compressor department I would recommend a Keeley 4 knob compressor. It's a great box for the funk rythym stuff and the long sustain kind of lead stuff as well. B.Y.O.C also has some kits for all kinds of pedals including compressors, overdrives, etc. if your up to soldering and such.

I also use the KOT...with both strat and Les Paul....as well as the OCD, mostly with the Les Paul, for my 2 main overdrives...or 3, since the KOT has 2 different OD's...I also use an Xotic EP booster along with a slew of other pedals...but for overdrives, those are "the ones". I also have a Celestion Gold and a G12H speakers in my 212 combo and it is insanely good. This is the most dynamic and sweet-sounding amp I've owned out of over a dozen high-end amps. I truly feel the Maz's are among the best amps ever made....future classics...

Walrus Audio has three very nice gain pedals: Voyager, Mayflower, and Iron Horse. Check out the You Tubes on the Voyager, a REALLY nice mild jangley OD. The Mayflower is a bit more in the Timmy mode, but less grainy to my ears. These sound GREAT through my 38s.
