I wasnt sure where to post this but since it happens mainly with the Ghia I'll start here.
With the Ghia set Vol 3oclock, Tone 9-10oclock I can get a lot of great sounds by working the vol/tone controls on the guitar but here is my problem. When things get kinda loud, I've found that if I dime the vol on my guitar I lose some of the Ghias presence/bite and will have to lower it just a touch to get that clarity back.
My guitar is a tele parts guitar, Swamp Ash body, thick Maple neck, Calaham hardware and Amalfitano pickups. The pickups are not too close to the strings but...what if I were to lower the pickups...would that help to lessen the compression at full volume?
Or...should I stick a 5751 in V1?
Has anybody else experienced this?

I've helped a friend re-tube his Ghia. I'd play with V1 and the Phase Inverter. We got some real nice sounds with a 5751 and a 12AY7 in V1. And if there's not a 5751 in the PI position try that as well as a 12AT7. Cheapest and easiest experiment. You didn't mention what speaker ya got in there but I'd try a more efficient speaker next. I see ya got a Z-Best, maybe ya need an open back 2X12? Just a thought.

A 5751 would definitely be the cheapest experiment because I already have some in my bag...I believe I'll try one in V1 first and see what that does for me. BTW...I am currently running the Ghia through a 2/12 open back Z cab with G12H30 and Weber Alnico Blue.

Ah, well that's a pretty efficient cab then isn't it! Those are both farly loud speakers.LOL Yup, give the tubes a shot. If ya need a few others call Doug at dougstubes.com He can get ya hooked up with a few of the other tubes I mentioned for a good price. He's a great guy.

I just read up on the pickups... Definitely lower the bridge pickup and see what happens. If the CG is your main amp may as well find the sweet spot that works for both the guitar and the amp. From what I gather, that pickup is mighty powerful! Play with it. It doesn't cost anything!!
