A friend came over to show off his bill Lawrence tele clone, 2 pc ash body supposedly from Louisiana, maple/rosewood neck, proprietary pickups, brass saddle for each string. Plugged it into my maz jr. and wow what a great guitar! Easy to play, sounds great, comfortable to hold. Its no crook custom but it rivals fender American tele's, appears to be built the same way except the headstock bridge are a lil different.
Looked on the net and far as we can find it's a "Swampkaster". No idea when it was made but we took the neck off the it has the same q/a name on them in the pocket and under side of the neck. Said he bought it used for half the price of a used American tele.
Anyone heard of or played one of these? And was it made by the Bill lawrence formerly of Gibson or someone with the same name?

I last saw one of those in Oakville about 3 years ago shortly after the NAMM. Believe they are one and the same from Bill Lawrence - previously of Gibson and now making and sellin' his own line of geetar pickups. From what I recall (sometimes a challenge due to missing brain cells ) you are bang-on about it goin' head-to-head with American Standard Tele. Only thing that prevented me from buying was lack of funds due to being recently married, and pending arrival of baby - my now soon to be 3 year old boy. Bottom line - probably a good score both for $$$ and tone 'cause if it was 1/2 price of Fender, then you can mod-it to your hearts content and still come out ahead. just my .02
