Welcome aboard...I fired my Ghia up for a few minutes yesterday to try out my new cable...vol @ 3 oclock, tone 10 oclock through a Weber Alnico Blue(30 w). I plugged my tele in and cranked an open G chord and was instantly inspired to play a lil bit of "Shook Me All Night Long" Just a great classic rock tone.

Ah yes Ronnie, but this doesn't help me. Just makes me want to get both! I've heard Busterboy say the Ghia will do a good AC/DC with the right speaker also. I'm sure with my guitar and my 1-12 or Z best it would seriously rock and probably have a gorgeous clean sound at lower volume too... Sure wish I could play one!!! Nice to hear that you rock out ocassionally ;D

I've been playing my Ghia some more lately, and I just love the overdrive this amp has. It's super detailed and articulate, even cranked up pretty high. It's a really great classic rock crunch with a smooth and greasey lead tone to boot. Nothing like the modern hard rock or metal type gain, but just great all around power tube crunch. Excellent AC/DC and ZZ Top tones in there.

I use my Ghia/Les Paul combination to cover Blues/Rock styles. It does AC/DC, ZZ Top, Cream etc... very well. The tone is thick with a nice smooth edge that has authority. Makes a lot of other amps sound thin, especially when playing single note blues/rock solos. With a turn of the volume guitars knob it cleans up with minimal drop in volume level. I love the guitar straight into the amp approach (I do use a wah and tuner in line) and the Ghia is the best I have owned so far for this (Marshall RI JTM-45/4x12 Greenback, Boogie MKI,MKIIC, Fender Blackface Bassman, Super, Twin, among others). I have had a lot of nice amps over the years and I have to say I am the most satisfied with Z Ghia ;D over any other amp I have personally owned. Of course the problem is that once you get one you want them all.

I disagree. Once I got the Maz yeah I wanted them all. Once I got the ghia I was done .

well. i took out the 12ax7 in the v1 and put in another philips 5751. really smoothed out this amp. it is still as loud, just a bit smoother. i love this little amp. just about the right volume.

Oh yes! I'll try the 5751 in v1- at the moment I've got an old Phillips 12ax7 in v1 and an old RCA 12BH7 in v2- very sweet! Brett

Seems to me that a Ghia could be more versatile than people give it credit for with a bit of a tube compliment in your gig bag Eg: Small club classic rock, 2 x12ax7's or V1 12ax7 V2-5751. More headroom or pedal rig, 2x5751 or 5751 and 12BH7. Seems you could just swap and change for whatever the gig needed. Custom modify your own gain needs, (to an extent) Am I right?

Pretty right Tas- still won't go from Twin with bright switch on to scooped mids death metal though! Assuming you're talking about classic rock, or even for that matter an unenhanced tube tone the ghia is a great sounding amp. I carry around the 5751 and 12BH7 depending on whether I want straight in or pedals. Realistically I tend to stay with a NOS Phillips 12ax7 and 12BH7 mostly. It's just a great sounding amp, rather than versatile in the sense most people think of these days (modelling or channel switching). Regards Brett
