I have a MIM 60th anniversary Strat which I really like. I like it almost as much as my 2 American Fenders. I love the neck and middle pickup but I hate the bridge pickup. I thought this guitar would be a good candidate for one of those 'single-coil size' humbuckers. Some of the songs I play in my band sound best with my humbucker guitar but my Fenders that have S1 get me close. I think a bridge humbucker in my 60th would be awesome. I know there are some humbuckers that are the size of a single coil pickup but I have never tried one. Can you guys tell me which one might be best for me? Think heavy blues, ZZ Top, maybe even some Black Sabbath Thanks Jay

The Duncan 'lil '59 is great for that in a Tele, don't know about the Strat version. Duncan Hot rails, vintage rails or cool rails may be the ticket, or a Fralin SP43 would cook as well.

Have the same curiosity, I don't like very much my bridge PU, mainly with OD/Dist pedals, it doesn't push into overdrive my amp and it is too trebly. So I'm wondering if there is a nice miniHB for a rock sound and if it could be a stupid thing???

Thank you all for taking the time to reply. I actually decided to go with a Seymour Duncan JB Jr. I did put both the Barden and Bill Lawrence sites in my favorites folder though in case it doesn't work out

Bardens seem to be pretty hot-- plenty of amp push for me:) Guys?? How are Barden PUs?? Don't know them. And Bill Lawrence, are them mini HB or single coils?? The Duncan JB miniHB seems to be the most famous. What about the SD Hot Rails? Suggestions are welcome...

I've used this in strats and it's as good a combination as you'll ever get.

I made a research, somebody told me that Bardens are a little harsh and trebly, an they suggested me that more similar to double size HB is Seymour Duncan Hot Rails. Any experience?

In my strat I went with a JB Jr. in the bridge spot and a lil 59 in the neck spot.

Fralin's SP42 is an excellent choice if you want a something a little more while still retaining that single coil twang over your typical weak bridge position single coil. For an even hotter signal the SP43 takes you into almost humbucker territory. I'm not sure about Sabbath but with an SP43 in the bridge and a AC booster into my Carmen Ghia your heading into LA GRANGE.

A friend of mine suggested me the Duncan little '59, he has one he's not using so I will try it in the bridge pos. on my strat. I'm wandering to add a split system to preserve intermediate position but gtr shop technician suggests me there's no need because isn't a "real" HB, so in bridge/mid position it will interact well with middle PU even with both two coils. I'm a little doubtful but i think I'll follow his advice.

JB jr here also in the bridge, but i wired it with a push pull pot on a tone control, default parallel wiring for about 70% humbucker output thats a bit hotter than a single coil, pull it up for series wiring for 100% output. Works nicely for those moments when you need more boost than rolling up the volume.

The Duncan 'lil '59 is great for that in a Tele, don't know about the Strat version. Duncan Hot rails, vintage rails or cool rails may be the ticket, or a Fralin SP43 would cook as well. I have the Cool rails in mine. The thing I like about the cool rails is this. THe pickup was designed not to take away the strat like qualities or sound of the guitar. When I installed the pickup I put a 3 way tap switch on it. Down = single coil closest to the bridge Middle = Double Coil Up = single coil tapped closest to the neck. Gives me a wide range of tone and it sounds great. The Hot Rails will probably get you the Sabbath thing where the Cool rails will dig a Robben Ford type sound. Hope this helps.

JB jr or the Hot Rail would be a nice 'bucker for the strat. Check out also some of the handy-work of Bill Lawrence or even some of the DiMarzio products. While I have not tried the Bardens, most I people I know who have, either love 'em or hate 'em. Unfortunately, I think the only person to truly master the Barden sound was Mr. Gatton.
happy shopping
Joel
