All, Does anyone here have much experience with New Orleans Guitars? From the ones I have played they seem like really great guitars. Nice fat neck ( a must for me) and killer tone to boot. I am thinking of having one of the JB14 models made. I like the fact that it is semi-hollow and neck-through-body as well. Also, from he ones I have played everything seems to be really high quality and no plastic is used on the guitars all bindings, pickguards, pickup rings, and knobs are made of wood. Here is the web site: www.neworleansguitar.com/Thanks, Paul G.

Very impressive Paul and looks to be a nice alterative to a Les Paul/335 with it being chambered out. Any info on cost ? Didn't see anything posted and will he ship direct or does it have to go through a dealer ??

Lookin' good! What's with the 25" PRS scale length? I was starting to jones for a C P Thornton but all he makes is a 25" scale. Deal breaker for me.

He only works through dealers at this point. Used to do direct from what I have found in reading but now has a small network of dealers. I have been working the most through Willcutt Guitars in Lexington, KY www.willcuttguitars.com/new_orleans_guitars.asp The cost on the JB14 is between $3,799 to $4,300, depends on what you desire wood wise and such, based on the pricing I have received and from looking at the inventory at Rahan Guitars. I believe the website is www.rahanguitars.com/showmodel.asp?mfgid=27As for the 25" scale.......I don't mind it. I had a PRS McCarty for a while loved how it played and felt but the tones just did not do it for me not as much as my Strat. I actually had the PRS for single coil sounds mostly. The way the McCarty was voiced just did not do it for me. However, I love how the JB14 sounds...and the Voodoo custom too for that matter. But I am in the market for a semi-hollow. I believe that a lot of makers go with 25" since it is right between Les Paul territory and Fender territory. Long answer to basically say that I am not sure....but I like the way it feels, plays and sounds on this make of guitar. Although...I did not like it 100% on the PRS. I have been in serious GAS about one of these for months now. Hope to pull the trigger in August on a special order......that should give me some GAS relief but then the waiting pains will begin. I think that's the deal, the builders want to build a guitar with an inbetween scale length to try to appeal to both camps. This way they don't have to have two sets of jigs. I'm not buying it though, 25" is going to feel more like 24-3/4" than 25-1/2" and I don't want to flip flop between both scales. Check out www.cpthorntonguitars.com . If he ever makes a 25-1/2" then I'll do that!

Nice guitars and priced up there too . One thing is you have to make darn sure this purchase will be a keeper and something you totally love . As nice as some of these smaller boutique companies are if you do decide to sell or trade you'll have to practically give it away at a big loss . This I know from my own experience and it's really disappointing that the name on the headstock dictates the market value regardless of the excellent guitar it is .

Billy, I like the CP Thornton guitars. Looks like a really nice design and seems really well thought out. Nitehawk, I totally agree with you. I have played multiple specimens so far and plan on playing more this summer before I order. For this type of investment it had better be "THE" guitar for me. Would hate to have buyers remorse down the road with this type of purchase.

Just a cruel reality with these awsome guitars Paul . Definately make sure it's "THE" guitar that will get some use and not end up a closet queen . That's also an unfortunate reality I found with the high end guitars , afraid to play them for fear of putting a mark in it . In the end that doesn't matter much , does it ? I found the same with 1911 type handguns I owned too ( had 30 at one time , now I don't own any ) Stupid thing was you would buy a top end piece and if you did decide to sell after limited use ( 200 rounds ) the potential buyer was all worried if it had any marks in it My reply usually was...are you going to look at it and fondle it or shoot the damn thing !! ;D

Nitehawk. Too true. I actually got lucky with my last custom 1911-A1. Right after I bought it the maker doubled his prices so when I sold mine later I actually got all of my money back. So far all of my guitars get a lot of use so I am not looking for a closet queen.....though they do tend to occur when folks forget that even expensive guitars are meant to played not looked at under glass or something.

I'm guessing that 1911-A1 had to be from one of the custom makers like Baer or the like . I actually favored Springfield's with a few mods and 45acp was my favorite cal . My whole family shoots , even my wife liked plinking with the .22 Kimber I had Unfortunately a dark political cloud looms on gun owners in this country and the potential total BAN for handguns and semi auto rifles . I got tired of the rhetoric , rumors and fear of owning something that may suddenly become worthless and illegal My youngest son does have 6 M1 Garands that we do get out with and target shoot with we he's home from the military but even the possibility of those becoming banned looms too . Unfortunately Canada does not have a constitution which states we have the "right to bear arms" BTW , was through NM a couple years back and my favorite saddle was made in a place called Belen where they make 7D saddles . It's a reining saddle and just an excellent piece of work ! Hope to get out in the wild west again someday
