hey all. I noticed that my Ghia came with two 12AX7's, one being a JJ and the other a Westinghouse. I thought that the V2 slot was suppose to have a 5751 tube? What gives? FWIW, the amp is a monster!. I really don't see the need for more headroom. Should I leave it as is?
Are there any tonal advantages having a 5751 instead of a 12AX7?
Cheers!

I run mine with two 12ax7s as well. I play mostly rock so I like things a little more gainy. Some use a 12BH7 for a more jazzy feel in V2 instead of the 5751. If it sounds good, rock on...

Yo, I too am running two 12AX7's... And I dig it. But I'm saving up to get some nos 5751's to try. I have seen a bunch of tube discussions by cats who have tried different combos of tubes, who eventually go back to stock for one reason or another and they have the old AHHHH HAAA! The Doc was right in the first place!
But one thing that is very cool about the Ghia is how responsive it is to the different tubes and cabs. So have fun tweaking, and experimenting. I sure am! Peace, Alex

I will definitely try a 5751 in the future. Does it mellow out the high end a bit?
I'm running the ghia head through a closed-back 1x12 cab with a vintage 30 speaker inside. I think it compliments the head nicely.
I just don't understand why I got two 12AX7's instead of one and a 5751 tube?
Are they being produced now with two 12AX7's?

Consider yourself lucky. Mine(used) came with a microphonic GT 12AX7(V1) and a dead Gt 5751 (V2). The EL84's were Mesa(yikes-Sovtek) and Sovtek 5Y3.. I changed to a Jan-Philips 5751 in V1 and the same in V2. I put in JJ 84's with a nos RCA 5Y3(50's). The amp sounds so much better now(incredible!), but may try a 12BH7 in V2 in the future.
Cheers.

my question is the same as Don's. Did you buy new? If so, the Ghia ships with a 5751 in V2. If you purchased new you might want to question the dealer.
The 5751 in the PI (Phase Inverter) gives the amp a bit more headroom and a little more 'pop or spring' in it's tone. I personally love the 5751 in the Ghia and have even put them in v1 and v3 of my Maz...

I also stuck a NOS GE 5751 in v3 of my Jr NR along with an NOS Raytheon 12ax7 in v1, along with the blue...sweet

Sorry for the late reply boys...
After doing some investigating, the Westinghouse 12AX7 in the V2 slot is infact a mis-labelled 5751 tube. So all is well. Does anyone else have one of these tubes, and if so, what are your thoughts?
