Really interested in getting an SRZ-65, though I was told it was based on the JCM 800. What's the difference between the two amps besides wattage?
Thanks in advance!

JCM 800 is solid state rectified. It is PCB constructed. The SRZ is tube rectified and all hand-wired on a turret board. It is 10 times the amp the JCM 800 is. Due to the hand-wired turret board construction, serviceability is greatly improved (although, w/ a Z, you probably won't need it...). The touch sensitivity is significantly improved over the Marshall. If you can ride the guitar volume knob, you'd swear it's a two channel amp. It's one of my top-three-of-all-time amps. The only one that nudges it out of the #1 spot is the Mazerati GT, another Z amp. You would be well served to check it out, too. Think of it as a hand-wired, tube rectified JCM 800, w/ a lot of extra MOJO... Oh, by the way, welcome to the board! Be careful... if you get a Z, it can be an addicting experience! I don't know if you've seen these vids, but here are some examples:

The SRZ IS sooo much mor ;De . The youtube vids posted really dont do justice. Not saying they are bad but with just a small OverDrive like a TS-9 or a BB preamp the SRZ JUST LIGHTS UP AND COOKS! My SRZ was purchased sight unseen and I was in your same shoes wanting an 800 but wanting to know more about the Z's . A friend who was using a KT45 and Maz18 told me I woul dnt be sorry to buy it If I had.the Chance. The best thing about the SRZ is that it cleans up and roars too! ;D i own 3 Z' s now and wamt.more. Rich Is holding back I think his #1 under the cat:)). The LE is a bad boy!!!!!!!!!! You can use the SRZ in a 1x12 or 2x12 or the holy grail a 4x12 greenback loaded cab my favorite. Bottom line it is an amp that by far exceeds the 800 in tone, reliabilty, versitility, . You wont be diapointed this 60 watter really really loud. Too loud most time

I think the SRZ65 cleans are much fuller and complex than my old 800's. Lots of sparkle on tap if you set it cleanish and use your volume knob.
