My CG is badass but I have found in live situations it does not have enough clean headroom, is there anything I can do to address this (try a different tube for example?) I love the tone of this amp and don't want to go to a Mazerati if I don't have to, please advise!
thanks Mister Trent

18 watts isn't much when you want clean headroom. Try 5751s or 12AY7s for the preamp tubes and more efficient speakers. That's really all you can do. Be sure your output tubes are strong too.

12BH7 in V2 (PI) should add a bit...something like a Tonker for a speaker should help.. but head room is not a Ghia's thang.

It's funny, we put efficient speakers in our 18 watters for more headroom and put inefficient ones in our 30+ watters for more breakup...
I second the efficient speaker thing...like they say, it's half your tone!

question. How high are you cranking the volume?

I'm also a fan of the 12BH7- I get breakup at 12 oclock with my tele, as against 3 1/2 with the 5751. But as above you don't really expect a lot of head room with the Ghia- sorry to say but true. Alternatively, you get lots of great edgy tones with a Ghia! Brett

Welcome to the forum mistertrent. Another vote here for the 12bh7 in V2. It increases headroom and the already great dynamic response gets bouncier. As others mentioned, a speaker change can help depending on what you're using now. I don't use a zbest but many say it's a very loud cab so that might be an option also.

The 12BH7 suggestions from some of the folks here is right on the money. If you couple this to a high efficiency speaker you will find the amp to be quite loud and have more clean headroom.
