I've been thinking about looking for a weber alnico blue pup and a alnico silver ten for my ghia 2x10 combo? It has the Z speakers in it now. I like the way the Z's sound but i was kinda looking for something a little smoother but I'm afraid the webers will take too much head room away from the amp. Has anyone tried this speaker combo with their ghia? I'd love to hear some comparisons between the Z speakers and the Weber alnico blue pup/silver ten combo!

Did you know that the Z 10's are a collaboration between Dr.Z and Weber?

Ya, i've read that on the forum before. Am I gonna have to be the first one to try the blue pup/silver ten combo with the ghia?

I replaced the Z speakers with 2 30W blue pups in my Maz Jr. combo that I used to have. Being an alnico speaker fan I liked the tone a lot but lost a considerable amount of headroom. The headroom loss was not obvious in a loud practice situation, however, when playing unmiced gigs people would ask me to turn up in venues where I used to struggle with too much volume.

I just picked up a pine open back 2x10 cab and will need speakers. I have not heard the speakers you are considering bit form past views they would appear to be a good choice.
There's not a whole lot of choice in 10'' speakers around; I'll await your review. The 2x10's in my CG combo work extremely well but it would be nice to have a different ''sound'' option.

let me know how it sounds. I have a 1.12, but my friend Matt H, has a 2x10 combo and he's thinking of removing the chassis from the cab and making a seperate head and cab.

I may try just one blue pup or silver ten at first along with a Z 10" to see what that's like. That will probably give me a good idea of how the CG will act with a 10" alnico. I play mostly indie rock and i play in church on sunday mornings with the Ghia. I like playing country too though. I know Brad Paisley uses the Blue/Silver combo and I love that sound so I was thinking the 10" Blue/Silver combo might get me close to that in a Ghia. Like I said, I'll probably end up starting with an alnico blue pup and go from there to see whether i like the alnico in the 2x10 or not. I'll keep an eye out for one on here, the gear page, and ebay i guess.

I've found a magic combo of 12s for my Ghia. I loaded an open/closed back with a Alnico Tubby and Celestion Blue. Wow. Played it Tuesday night in a small... small club and it was everything I've been looking for. I had to use a Z air brake on 3 for the first half of the gig but was on 1 by the end. It sounded great the entire time. Vol on 12:30 and tone on 11:30. Nice round with a touch of chime. Very thick and warm. I'm not good with describing this stuff ever since the "punchy" thread came out. But it was good.
