Hey Y'all, I'm the proud owner of an original Sting Ray (before they changed the name) 2x12 combo. Great amp indeed! I am finishing up in the studio and I'm gonna need to put together a live rig for next Spring/Summer. My choices are as follows: 1) Get a second Stang Ray 2x12 combo and A/B them 2) Sell the combo, get two Stang Ray heads, and A/B them with one 2x12 cab using the following device: www.tonebone.com/tb-headbone-vt.htmWhat do y'all think? There are benefits to each, I suppose. I like the portability of two heads and one cab, but the two combo rig is so simple it has its appeal as well (i.e. no complex devices to fail, just a simple A/B box). All opinions welcome. Thanks, Fellers!

I have several headbones and they work great. I'm a little curious on why you think you need another Stingray. Why not get something with some sonic variance - like a Maz GT, SRZ65, Galaxie, EZG 50, etc., (I'm sure a number of people can chime in on which amp to pair with a Stingray)?

Why not just get another head, Stangray or otherwise, and use the tone bone with the combo can speakers?

I dont know what tone your after . But yes you could use the combo speakers with the headbone and another head completely but like jaguarguy said is this for backup or for use??? Your not gonna be able to use any amp over 30 watts with the blues or you could possibly damage them. However a nice ZWreck or Maz would go great with the Ray.

Why not just get another head, Stangray or otherwise, and use the tone bone with the combo can speakers? +1 Keep that Stingray--it's a "collector item," of sorts. Just plop another head-cab on top of your combo, and then treat the speakers in your combo as if they were a separate cab, after the Headbone. [FYI--Weber also makes an amp switcher; check them out too, I believe they're a bit more affordable, and probably just as good.]

Hey Fellers,
Thanks for the great replies! Yeah, the reasons I want to use two Sting Rays:
1) I love the lead tone I get on the amp when it's turned up
2) It is the single best, most versatile amp I've ever owned
I run mine with a Brake Lite in the back, and I have REALLY enjoyed it. Recorded the whole CD with it, and taken it to every session I've played since I got it. There's nothing this amp can't do.
All of the leads on the CD were done going straight into this amp, and the tone was just fantastic.
So, that's why I want another. I like the idea of using a head with the combo and then using the combo speakers. That's a good idea!

Hey Fellers, Thanks for all of the terrific replies. . .love this forum! So, here's what I've decided: I'm gonna go with the excellent suggestion of buying a Stang Ray head, wire it in with the ToneBone, and then just use the combo speakers as my cab. That way, I don't have to carry that much extra gear. While it would look really cool to have two combos, or two heads, etc., it'd be a nightmare to haul around. Again, thanks for all the terrific replies y'all!
