I have had my Maz 38 NR 2x12 for 1 year now. I'm looking to try as many different EQ settings as possible. I know there are a ton of excellent players on this forum and I'ld love to try your EQ setting through my rig. What settings do you use? I will try any and all you give me. Heck, I'll even report back which ones I liked the best and why etc. Not that i am in any way a professional player - but I do have an ear for tone. I enjoy all types of music. Post anything you got, I'll print off the posting in a week and take it to my rehearsal space and try em out. I'll let you know how your settings sounded through my set up and which ones I liked the best. I use an american standard tele and an ES335 for guitars. I run those through an MXR Carbon Copy, EWS Fuzzy Drive, BB Preamp MB and an Eventide Space. My 2x12 speakers are a G12H30 and a Hempcone V30. My current settings are; having my VOL at 9 o'clock ,TREB at 1, MID at 11, BASS at 1, CUT at 9 and MASTER at 10. No attenuation. Thanks guys, I look forward to checking out some new settings.

I know the MAZ 38 is not the same as the MAZ 18, but here is a compilation of settings contributed over the years. Hope it is helpful.

Here's mine from my last gig: Rev 9 o' clock, Cut 10, master 10 or 11, Bass 9, Middle 11, Treble 10, Volume 3. This was with my old Strat into the high input, 1x12 Z cab with V30, Airbreak on 2nd click. I also used my KOT to push things more for solos. Sounded OK to me! As yours is the NR version I guess it may not sound quite the same though.

This is great, I'll be trying these out this weekend. Doctorice, thanks for the link of the MAZ 18 settings. Taking into account the difference between the 18 and 38, these settings are still going to give me alot to work with. Thanks again guys, I'll let you know how things go.

I've been digging these. Feeding her with a 52RI Tele with Lollar Special-T pickups, kicked up with a Timmy when I need it.
High input Volume: 10:00-11:00 Treble: 9:00 - 10:00, depending on the room Mid: 2:00 Bass: 12:00 Master: 2:00 Cut: 10:00 - 12:00 depending on the room Reverb: 9:00
Air Brake on 3 clicks at the start of the gig, go louder as the night goes on.

Here's another Buddy Whittington setting - this one was from the 2011 International Blues Festival in Windsor, Canada last summer. Might be a bit loud for a basement setting Played this through a Z-Best Cab. Enjoy!

His bass looks like it's completely off...
Here's my 2X12 settings, same speakers minus the hemp cone: Low input Volume - 1 or 2 Treble - 9 Mids - 12 or 1 Bass - 8 Cut - 12 Master - varies according to how loud I want it, usually around 10 Works really well for my tele which is already bright.

His bass looks like it's completely off... Buddy's tone tweaking starts with the bass turned all the way down on the MAZ and then increasing it until it's just having an audible effect. He shows this on the DR Z DVD and has also mentioned it here on Z Talk. Probably something in the room and rig that day led him to keep it all the way down, or maybe he hadn't finished setting it up.

It was an open air festival. He must not have felt that he needed the bass because those were his final settings.

I have a 2x12. I set it 2 different ways depending on humbuckers or single coils. With my Strat: Master cranked (break lite) Volume at 11-12:00 mid, treb, bass at 12:00 Cut at 9-10 Verb at 9:00
Humbuckers: Master cranked (break lite) Volume at 9-10:00 Treb and bass at 12:00 mid at 9:00 cut at 9-10 verb at 9
I find these settings allow me to use pedals or not and still get nice tone with both types of guitars. The mid dial is the dial that gets the most attention when switching the guitars over.
When playing Les Pauls with a pedal infront the volume dial stays down to 9 if I want to really hear the flavour of the pedal, especially higher gain pedals. I will move the volume up if I am using lower gain pedals with the LP (sometimes). Perhaps with a SHOD, or a Klon clone that I use, for instnace.
My Maz has two celestion golds. I find that the treble and mids vary more quikly with the turn of the dial then my bass does. But I love the sound of my amp, there is plenty of bass...and that is good enough for me.

I have Maz 38 NR which is slightly different from the normal Maz 38 from what I'm told... I play a Strat with Bare Knuckle Pickups and use pedals for my gain. I set mine up fairly flat.
Master 12:00 Cut 10:00ish Bass, Middle, Treble 12:00 Volume 10:30ish
I now use the HI input since I've re-tubed V1-V3 and the rectifier w/ NOS tubes which really cleaned up the gain. Prior to that my settings were similar but I used the LO input.
Basically, every time I play it I roll through each dial and find a place that I like and I end up near to the setting I mentioned above.

Hi, I have a NEW to me (used 2008 20th) Red Maz38 Sr Reverb..
I'm seeing a lot have the bass turned down real low and in some cases at 0. It's the 1x12 Combo with G12H 30W and so far I keep the bass on full and with HBrs in the bridge position I feel it needs a little more. I cut back the treble and cut is almost off and It sounds a little better but then when I go to the middle PU selector or neck it’s too much bass..
I have not experimented with it as I’ve had it only a few days. I’m just used to my Ghia which I have not much option on tone control…lol, I have always said the less knobs the better.. But I do love the tone on the Maz38…
I have a C-Gold kicking around that I may try,, but thinking it will add more chime and less bass… My Ghai has a C-Blue and I love it.
My Strats and Gretsch guitars sounds really good with the Maz and have a great bass response but again, I have it on full (turned all the way up). Could it be that I'm not pushing the amp enough??? I'm doing all this at livable house volumes in my home so I haven’t had the volume or Master past 2 or 3 depending on which way I set them..
Settings I’ve tried. : V=full T=9 O’clock M=12 O’clock B= Full M= 9 O’clock C=off to 9 O’clock R=9 to 10 O’clock
Another is the same as above but with: V= 9 to10 O’clock M= Full Just flipped the two. Thanks

Volume: 9-11 Treble: 10-11 Middle: 10-11 Bass: 10-11 Cut: 11-12 Master: 11-1
I usually play somewhere around these settings. Know that I mostly only use the bridge pickup or a p90 SG and almost always have a v4 fulltone OCD on with the drive between 7 and 8 and tone between 9-11. These are my main rock settings for most of the stuff i play.

chadbragg:
In case you don't know...if you have your guitar cable plugged in tot he low input, you can always plug a foor switch to the high input and kick it on when wanting to lead or for a bit more bite...like a boost. I think you get like 3 db gain from that. I am told it won't damage the amp but some report a loud "click" sound when engaging the foot switch. Mine has no issue. So find the setting you like and then hit that footswitch

The Maz 18 settings work pretty well with the 38 - try a few and see what you think!
