So here's the deal: I've been working on a setlist with a freind of mine. He's a bass player who has worked in a lot of styles. But his heart is in 1977 class war punk rock. Me? I'm more of a mid to late 60's R&B guy with a spattering of surf/spy. Poke Salad Annie, First I Look at the Purse, Peter Gunn theme, Davey Allen etc. So our set list is eclectic - to say the least. It's really been fun because we're slowing down the Punk a little and giving it a bit of swing and we're speeding up the R&B and giving it more energy.
I've got a bunch of tweed - Clarks mostly - but I tend to use a MAZ-38NR through a Z-Best when I play out. My main squeeze in a strat loaded with low output Fralin's. I'm not much of a pedal guy. Guitar-tuner-fuzz-ZVerb-amp is my usual chain (I use the fuzz to up the gain). But my last band was all R&B, Blues & Blues Rock. I think I need to add some more aggressive tones to my palate - what with the Punk & all.
I've got a chance to pick up a Galaxie head at a fair price and I'm intrigued by the possibility of switching between sweet tweed tones and hard driving Marshallesque with a mere footswitch.
So: Given my specific needs is this a good choice for me? I've read a lot about channel 1. But what does channel 2 really sound like?
Thanks in advance for any & all responses.

Channel 2 imho it is: Big. Mean. Nasty. Hard driving. Tone-full-ness. Try it. You'll like. Single coils, P-90s or 'buckers? Thru a Z-best? Oh man ..... oh man ..... oh man ....... 'tis a thing of raw beauty ;D ;D ;D cheers always, Joel edit: only pedal I currently use on my Galaxie is the channel switcher .....

If you like some punk, think of the proto punk, Pete Townshend. Raw like a Hiwatt but on the dirty side of meaty beaty big and bouncy. I think. But I have never owned a Hiwatt so I am just speculating. Someone will come along and either say, "nailed it" or, "what are you smoking?".

Channel 2 EXPLODES off your fingertips. Skin and bone and strings, plugged straight in for gobs of tone and girth and volume. Both channels give awesome cleans and incredible rich OD, either channel alone is worth the price of admission!
