Which would you use with a Stingray:
1x12 Gold or G12-65?

Gold or go with the Gold. I also hear that Celestion has a nice 12" Alnico that goes well with the Ray. I think it's called - the "Gold".

I've never even heard anyone consider a G12-65 with the 'ray.
Gold all the way.

I wonder why the Weber 30watt Blue Dog Alnico doesn't get much attention for this amp.
StangRay 30 watts and a perfect matching wattage speaker would seam to make sense. Would think you might get some of that speaker break up the Blue is know for.

A cheaper but great option is the eminence red fang.

Mike, for me it depends on what sound you're going after. I use the Ray for R&R and Southern Rock/Country/Blues. For playing rock music I prefer the attack and thud of a good ceramic. For the Southern Rock/Country/Blues I like an alnico speaker. And my personal favorite is a 50W Weber blue dog 50W alnico. The 50w version is less sensitive (perceived loudness) and gets to my sweetspot at less volume. I still have to use an airbrake or brakelite for gigging the ray. I'd love to try a 30w alnico bluedog. A well broken in gold also sounds great.

I have both, I love the g12-65's even more than the gold, its really good at taming any highs and breaks up like butter.

Nice Thread! I have Both and they really sound Killer with Both, The Gold has a Bit more Chime the 65 will give you nice bottom end and Make the Ray sound Like a Marshall, But way Better! ;D

I just stuck the Scumback M75-LHDC-8-65w in my 112. The Gold isn't going back in it! I could see how both might make a nice combo but the amp is way too bright for my tastes... and the M75-LHDC tames those highs big time and better than the tone/cut knobs imho....and I think I prefer ceramics to alnicos. Sure seems more pedal friendly now too. fwiw

Blue or Gold...... Or even the Weber Alnico Blue dog. I had a Z 2x12 cab with one Alnico blue dog and one Alnico Silver Bell. Best sounding cab I ever owned.

Howdy, A Stangray head with a Gold in a 1x12 Z cab. It'd be more humane to dangle a hot, Pepperoni PIZZA in front of my face! LOL. Ya'll have really stoked my Stangray GAS.

In my opinion, Weber Alnico Blue Dog 50W (light dope) is the best ever with the Stingray. Tames the highs, helps manage volume and sounds amazing. Smoked a single Gold and my Celestion Blue cab. Now if you want ear-splitting volume? 2 Golds or Blues.

I doubt there is a "best"-- just more popular.
Personally, a Blue/EVM is the hugest sound I ever had from my Stang. Ginormous bottom end and definition from the EVM, glorious breakup and singing crunch from the Blue.
I really prefer "odd couple" speakers that are very different in voicings for paired setups.
Why do you think the Z-best sounds so killer? I guarantee you that a pair of V30s sounds not as large.
