I took a stab at doing a demo video of the Brake lite...a few clams but I don't care, not about the playing on this one...Have a watch and listen. I had my V at 2, Master at noon. Eq's were in the noon range except for bass it was at 10. Guitar (Squier CVC tele), cable and amp only.
As I increase the attenuation, you will notice the amp getting dirtier..I think that's kinda cool. Hope you enjoy... oh and my favorite setting was "2"...really nice!

Great job Mark.. ..an attenuator isn't an easy thing to demo! I'm gonna watch it a few more times, with higher volume after I leave the office.

Mark got a Brake Lite finally!??! I know the world was supposed to end yesterday but we're still here! Whats going on?
Way to go, Mark, on the new purchase. You'll love it. Now you can crank that Master Volume!

Another excellent demo Mark! I listened at full computer volume twice I didn't really notice any change from "attenuator off" to click 1. But definitely noticed it at 2 ,3 and 4! I really liked the sound at positions 2 and 3. I can see why 2 could be a favorite. Now I got an itch for one of these. I'm thinking I could pretty much dime the amp (Maz18Jr) and use #2 or 3 and get a helluva tone and sustain. Thanks again for the vid! Oh- Great playing BTW!!

thanks Frank! Ya, 2 is my favorite by far....I am not liking the V's maxed and on 4 at all, too buzzy, too fizzy, that's why you see me turn down the guitar volume just a bit...I just did that in the video to show that they could be maxed out and not blow one away. I liked the V at 2 and master at noon or slightly above and BL on 2...that was perfect! Nice grit, nice bite, in the room it sounded a million times better as well.
I added a second part to the first, this one with my effects on...

Great stuff, Mark. I agree that 3 and 4 seem to be more tone altering than 1 and 2. Combination of Fletcher-Munson and speaker drive I suppose.
My next gig is in a place where I ran the BL on 3 last time with my Z-28. I think I'm going over to 2 and backing down V a little on the amp.

Thanks Mike....I was really enjoying 3 today on the BL....at noon I came home and did some knob tweaking on my eq's and dialed in the BB preamp....V was around 1 and Master at 11...wasn't loud but holy crap did it ever sound fantastic! It would be a great tone to mic the amp

Yeah, the potential use in recording makes a ton of sense. benttop (Steve) made clips that demonstrate that a good chunk of the perceived tone effect is likely those pesky Fletcher and Munson dudes messing with our heads. Get a good tone with the BL, stick the mic in there, press record and wail away.
So for you, Mark, give them country licks a little rest, crank the V and MV, hit the FD and BB and rock out! ;D

thanks Mike! Ya I will have to try the cranked thing once again...I really find though that pushing it with the Dragon can create a little flub...not sure why, maybe more EQ dialing will eliminate that.

There's another perception effect that I've talked about before, but bears repeating. Back in the '90's, Rivera came out with this powered subwoofer cab for their amps, called the Los Lowbottom. The sales gimmick was to have the customer play the amp with the sub off, get a great tone, then switch in the sub. All of a sudden it sounded immense! You let the customer get accustomed to that sound for a few minutes, then you switch off the sub. All of a sudden the exact sound that he had earlier that was so great, instead sounded like a transistor radio. What changed? The customer's perception! If you want to use your attenuator with a lot of attenuation, START with a lot of attenuation, then dial in your sound. It will be wonderful. You will get the exact sound you want. And that is because your perception will not have been poisoned by how the amp sounds when it is a lot louder. Really - try it. You'll be surprised how much more you use it with a lot of attenuation if you simply start there.

And that's exactly that's why I didn't bound with the AB when I had one. I felt the need to reverse my approach, which unfortunately to me, my own ear perception would dictate a re-eq as the AB would be use less and less. This isn't to say that the AB isn't transparent nor a good product (still i'll put up my flame-shield up!) I felt that an attenuator needed to be a simple plug and play, with very minimal adjustements required, if any. I went with another attenuator manifacturer and it allowed my ear perception to not change. The next guy may not see any differences though, hense my comment about about not questionin' the quality of the product B
