Just curious where you all place your fuzz pedals (if you use one) in your chain. I've got a keeley fuzzhead and place it after the wah and compressor but before ODs. Any other recommendations?

I always put the fuzz box first, but I never use a wah.

After Wah everything else comes after.

I have mine after wahs, after comp sandwiched between the clean boosts and the OD's...so it can get a lil' goose if needed and goose those down the line too...
Guitar > Fixed Wah > Wah > Comp > Boost1 > Boost2 > Fuzz > OD1 > OD/Dist2 > Wiggly/Choppy and Repeat things > Amp
Fuzz should go early in the signal path...I just like having the option of screwing with the Fuzz using different flavored boosts but still being able to use it as a boost too...

Love the thread title .... When I use fuzz the path is: guitar - wah - compressor - fuzz - od - Z-28.

Ya know, the coolest thing is that some of the coolest sounds come from really un-orthadox orders. But in general fuzz's, especially germaniums, Like to be first, or if you have to, after your wha. They are weird high impedance little devils and dont work quite right unless hooked directly to the guitars pick-up. They really hate to be after a buffered out put pedal, and dont really even like to have one down stream of it! Try it out, first with nothing but guitar into fuzz- and remeber that you have to forget all that you about Overdrives. (To get the magic out of a fuzz, you have to learn how to use your guitars volume knob!! Listen and watch Jimi's new years band of gypsy's video, ..... he rarely turns off his modded silicon face. Its all about the knob for texture and clean to scream. I cant stress this enough, so many guys try to use fuzz like an overdrive and just kick it on for solos', which i guess works to some degree. But you miss most of the fun, and probably sell it, thinking i really dont like fuzz's. Most, at full volume (guitar) have a huge roll off in treble as they get this exploding conjestive volcano sound, which ya know is not going to be always very usable, ... but its there when ya want by simply rollin that little knob up!) - then try your fuzz with other effects in the chain and you'll probably like it much less! in fact put it after your boss whatever, and it'll sound like a skinny skanky buzz bomb. really weird circuits these guy's. In fact i think the Fuzz Face was the very first tru by-pass pedal ( of sorts ). They had to design a way for it to work because of its rediculous impedence, otherwise when switched off ( not tru by-passed ) it was a muffled weak mess into the amp or next pedal! kinda cool.

great post tele.. I just picked up a Face Lift from Make n' Music and fell in love with fuzz all over again. You can only do so much sonically with overdrives... if you wanna get crazy you gotta have some fuzz!

Hear ya buddy!! I really like Jacks ( prescription ) face lifts. I think i really liked the germanium version, ... but both are very nice. Kind of a fuzz of a DIFFERENT feather, ... i liked the Karl fuzz by Lovepedal. Not so much treble roll-off and a really different kinda fuzz sound. Maybe goin towards a distortion-y ala RAT kinda tone. I have wondered if he uses that broken op amp trick for its unique sound? Still some nice thick conjestion wide open, nice blurr, .. but more usable i think for a lot of players.

It probably depends also from the type of fuzz. My Lovepedal Karl is screaming to be the first in the line, Mi Audio Neo Fuzz is doing great after my RMC2 wah, and Keeley Compressor.

Good point auratnik, a lot of the newer (neo) builders have incorporated lots of tweaks to the input impedance circuit and the use of the transistors, (Like eliminating the temperature funkyness of the germaniums, bias etc.), To among other things make them more user friendly and versatile in their placement. I was mainly refering to a stock face type of circuit, which remains to be pretty finicky.
