I've got an RC Booster and a AC Booster, both are the newer variety with the Blue LED between the Gain and Treble Pots. I really love the RC but I'm having a heck of a time finding a decent sound with the AC, especially if I drive the gain up past 3 O'Clock. I find it is slightly better sounding with my Les Paul type of guitars than with any single coil boxes.
I find that the bass response is enormous with the pedal and even when I back off the Bass (9 o'clock) and boost the Treble (1 or 2 o'clock) there is still too much Bass and it seems to get the tone off balance if I go to far with the controls. I've tried it with all of the settings I've tried from my forum brothers but I'm still not fully sold on the pedal in general, and I'm close to unloading it completely.
I know alot of you guys are praising the BB but at close to $200.00 a pop I am skeptical about dropping more money to try another Boost.
Has anyone else run into this with their AC's and Maz Jr's? Any suggestions?

The BB isn't a boost. It's a full on preamp. Not that it makes much difference, but it is definitely not a boost... And from what I hear, it is nothing like the AC. I don't have the AC, nor have I tried it, but the BB is tremendous. Ain't nobody goin' to take it away, nohow, noway.

On my ac, I keep the Gain at 1:00 and the volume at 10:00. Treble at 10, Bass at 11-12. This gives a nice crunch for rhythm stuff, and I am using a strat.
I just got my BB in today... Its a pretty awesome box. It is completely different than the AC, though. I was getting some awesome lead sounds.

The BB will be a boost if you turn the gain all the way off.

The AC has a mid hump that just won't go away. Been fighting with mine as well. If it works well with your LP then use it just with that guitar and find something that works with single coils for ya. I'm gonna sell my BB and AC if anyone is interested. Nice pedals, just not working for me personally. Jason

It took me a long time to warm up to the AC but finally managed to find a useful setting. I use it more as a boost with hair by keeping the Gain very low and kicking up the Volume. It has a lot to do with the type of music you play obviously. If you like high gain that would not work but if you are looking for a little extra kick that seems to work for me. I use the BB for more of a tube over drive if you will, sounds much more natural to me than the AC with gain.

I think that AC is not an OD, you must not expect much saturation from it. I use it to make bigger my tone, to add sustain and that certain thing it gives, also to push following od. I will try BB pre, I've heard from you guys some nice comments...

There was a link somewhere of a guy playing an AC into a twin reverb and it had a lot more gain than the demo video on their home page would leave you to believe.

I find that there is plenty of gain if you crank it, but I can't find a setting that I'm blown away with, it always seems too muddy or has too much top end (harshness). I have found some 'OK' settings but I expected much more after all the hype I'd heard about it, I couldn't try before you buy as there are no dealers in my area at all so I took a leap of faith after all the RC is a really great sounding pedal, I guess I just expected more from it. Dr T I haven't tried using it to push my other OD pedals but I'll try that next time I plug in , great idea! Thanks, [glow=limegreen,2,300]-J-[/glow]

Yes, but then tell us how it works! I do that with my RC, I keep it always turned on on clean sound, and pushing OCD or D-pro. I think it was thought to work with AC and/or BB to have different levels of OD adding each other...

With my ac, I can get PLENTY of gain with rhythm type stuff. I can imagine needing any more. But when it comes to solos, i need something more. Thats why I got the BB, and its amazing!

I had an AC boost about a year ago and liked it,but like you, I wasn't blown away by it. I'm not a huge tube screamer fan and it had some of those qualities. I didn't think it colored the sound as much, but it just didn't do the trick for me. On the other hand the BB and the RC are an awsome combo w/an OCD I have never had a better lead or high gain sound! alot of options from big and wide open to compressed w/ a ton of harmonics and feed back control. I'm happy w the BB it's a great choice if you only use one OD.

FYI, AC Booster has been revoiced from what i understand. i had he old version and disliked it and had the store exchange it for BB. BB noticeably colors your midrange in a different way (than AC).
